What happened to Brian Mulruney (he was Canada's Prime Minister last time I checked)?

Hello, I visited yesterdays Canada Day celebrations in ottawa and I drove all the way from Pittsburgh just to see Mulroney because I support him for the jobs he helped create here in the USA because of free trade. Instead, I was surprised to get somebody named Stephen Harper.

I heard in American news that the conservatives won the election in 2006, but wasn't Mulroney the leader of conservatives? What on earth happened to him I thought he was Prime Minister? Who is this new "Harper" guy?

When I last visited Canada, Mulroney was Prime Minister and I thought he had been prime Minister ever since. What a dissapointment.

Second question: I'm in Toronto right now and does anyone know a good place to eat chinese food?

Mulroney has been gone for a while, and now works in the private sector.
Harper is ok, but mighty average.

Best chinese food is the Mandarine buffet

Mulroney has been gone for almost 15 years. Do you never watch any news about any other country but your own?

I hear he is hosting Canadian Idol now. He looks good. much younger than before.

I have a question for you. How did you get into Canada?
I want to slap that Customs officer.

Carl
Brian Mulroneys son is the host of Entertainment News. Maybe you are getting them mixed up. Lordy, that's like saying I went to visit Washington and was really surprised that Gerald Ford was no longer the President. Get a grip! Some wonder why Canadians dislike Americans. Well you are a perfect example of why!

I'm totally with Steve P above. Let's find that stupid customs officer. I'm surprised you were even able to find the Canadian border.

Brian Mulroney resigned from the Premiership and the party leadership in early 1993, and was succeeded by then-Minister of Defence Kim Campbell as Prime Minister until the general elections a few months later. She, and the Progressive Conservative Party, were crushed to 2 seats and were replaced as government by the Liberal Party led by Jean Chretien.

Prime Minister Chretien remained in office from 1993 till December of 2003. Chretien then resigned as Prime Minister and as Party leadership and Paul Martin, a former Minister of Finance under Chretien, succeeded him.

Prime Minister Martin remained in office until his defeat in the 2006 elections to Stephen Harper of the reformed Conservative Party (the Progressive Conservatives and the Canadian Alliance merged in 2003 to form this new party).

Prime Minister Harper currently leads a Conservative government in a minority situation in the House of Commons, the Liberal Party is presently led by Stephane Dion, formerly the Environment Minister under Paul Martin.

Dude, you need to keep tabs on the news andor foreign politics a little better. Mulroney was our 18th Prime Minister. Stephen Harper is our 22nd Prime Minister. Mulroney was arguably one of Canada's worst Prime Ministers. When he retired, 2.5 months before the upcoming election that would see his Conservative government suffer the worst ever defeat for a governing party at the federal level, he went on a taxpayer funded farewell tour of the world, and left the Conservative government in shambles for Canada's 1st female Prime Minister who was not elected but won the Conservative Party leader race when Mulroney cowardly left office early and left the defeat for someone else to suffer. Mulroney was also caught in the Airbus affair, brought the GST to Canada and yes championed Free Trade, which may or may not be good for Canada, but is his only bright spot and so called legacy. He was a horribly bad Prime Minister and went to work in the US immediately after leaving office. Sadly I saw him on TV just the other night.
Stephen Harper on the other hand, seems like he will be an effective leader for Canada and who has had to work at rebuilding the Conservative Party since Mulroney destroyed it.
