I visited Newfoundland three years ago and it was my best vacation ever. Why? Because of the people.
I've never been in a place where people were as big-hearted. From the docent in the provincial museum who took the time to teach me how a hook rug is made to the couple I met at a restaurant when I was dining alone who first asked me to their table and then invited me home for a drink and dessert. I loved the storytelling I heard as I traveled around the province staying in bed and breakfasts.
Forget what you hear about people so honest they don't put locks on the doors - I noticed that in the Great Northern Peninsula there were hardly ever locks on the bathroom stalls.
I can't say enough about how much I grew to appreciate Newfoundlanders. The land itself is beautiful, but the trip wouldn't be half as memorable if it weren't for the people I met there. I want so much to make another visit there. |

they are known for being very funny, hospitable, and having a distinct accent. Also they are known for being hard-working and honest. They are the best people in Canada (I am not from there). On a negative side, they are known for being heavy drinkers and not very highly educated. |
