What is a good gift to buy my 22yr old son who is leaving for canada soon from australia. Any ideas?

I THOUGHT WE'D HAVE a CHRISTMAS day for him before he leaves and I want to get something that he can travel with. Can you use Australian appliances in Canada or is the voltage different?I've heard it gets very cold there, any suggestions would be good thanks

I found this page on the Internet for you, it explains voltage
differences between Canada and Australia and they sell
adapters as well.

There are many different climates in Canada so it would
be helpful if you could tell us in which part of Canada your
son will be living. I am Canadian and love it here. I hope
your son will enjoy his visit.

This may sound like a "duh", but make sure he has plenty of warm clothing. Long Johns and a good winter coat are good places to start.

how about a hand held GPS system? I am 21 yr old male and would love one of those!

Canadian Ken
How about a sweater made from Australian or New Zealand wool? Those things are kinda pricey up here on this end of the planet.

It'll keep him warm and remind him of home.

You can buy international adaptors in Kmart. My daughter leaves for US in December too! Something to cheer him up if he gets homesick.

I believe there are differnt voltages. So getting him some adaptors for the things he absoutly needs to take with plugs

Hi,

Get him a Sony PSP. It enables him to watch movies, listent to mp3s and play games. Perfect on the go and should keep him company.

Here in Canada our house mains are 110Vac.

The tough question is, what can you get him in Australia that would be suitable for Canada? For example, whatever winter jacket you can find in Australia might not be up to scratch for Canadian winters.

I suggest some wool socks, and maybe a sweatshirt with the lgo of the local hockey team of whatever province it is he's heading to.

Take a look at the link below for an example of a decent sweatshirt that he ought to like.

A Canadian Tire gift card, big store with all guys stuff, everywhere it's nearby. Tell him to visit Bobcaygeon and ask for Pete.

Warm clothing and good boots. I suggest stuff from Eddie Bauer. I'd order it on line and ship to Canada. Also if he smokes cigarettes or drinks beer tell him to bring as much with him as allowed.

buy what he needs like underwear socks t-shirts long sleeve shirts and gloves

fatsausage
Make sure that he settles on the West Coast - then he will not need Long Johns. He is going to need
extra cash to find an apartment etc.
so give him CAN $1,000.00.
When he is settled he can get all the gadgets he wants in Canada.

Alice Chaos
How about an Ipod, or a bigger and better one if he already has one. An international pre-paid phone card would be nice also.

mgg912
a good coat (depending on what part of canada) you probably wont be used to our winters

I would buy him an address book and have it full of all his friends and relatives addresses and personal info such as birthdays and things.

Make up a scrapbook with friends pictures and pet pictures, he will get home sick. Or buy those picture frames that you can load up with digital pictures, scan in pictures of you and the kids, the dogs, past vacations, friends.

My son joined the navy last year, and he wanted pictures of everyone and everything we did.

I set up a website so that I can post family pictures and events almost as they happen. He loves this, even though he can't be with us, he still can see that everything is fine and he sees we all miss him,

cheeky
it really depends on exactly where in Canada he is moving to...There are major climate differences here...and no-we don't live in igloos, have dog sleds...or pet beavers eh?
