Area code is 403 for Calgary and Southern Alberta, 780 for Edmonton and Northern Alberta. From the US dial 1+ area code+number |

Actually, while 403 is currently correct for existing phone numbers in Southern Alberta, including Calgary, new numbers throughout the province will be begin receiving a new area code of 587 in addition to 403 and 780 (Northern Alberta's current area code). Alberta will run out of phone numbers under the current area codes sometime in 2009, so new numbers in both the south and north will be preceeded by 587. The Country code of "1" will remain the same. In addition, effective last month (Sept 08), all Albertans were required to dial the full 10 digits for all local calls i.e. 403-555-4321.

1 is the country code and 403 is the area code.
However....some bumbling idiot thought they would save money by not creating a 'new' area code for Calgary's growing population. Therefore we have to dial 403 before ANY local number ALL the time. |
