Toronto is Canada's largest city by population and the provincial capital of Ontario. Toronto's population is 2,481,494 (2001 Census), and the population of the Toronto Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) is estimated at 5,304,100 in 2005 (Statistics Canada). A Greater Toronto Area (GTA), slightly larger than the Toronto CMA, is defined by provincial authorities for urban planning purposes. Residents of Toronto are called Torontonians (in French: Torontois). The city is part of the Golden Horseshoe, a densely populated region in Ontario of around eight million people. Approximately one-quarter of the Canadian population lives within the Golden Horseshoe, and about one-sixth of all Canadian jobs lie within the city limits.

Toronto is the biggest city and the capitol city of Ontario, it also has the biggest population as this is where any one coming to Canada always seems to go, i grew up in Toronto and glad to have escaped, it is great there but it is way too big and fast paced, i live in another province now( Nova Scotia), love it here

Dang jie_nuan. She only asked what Canada's largest city was! ;) You're right though, Toronto is the largest Canadian city in population. I'm not sure where it lands when you consider it by size. I do know that Montreal is seven times the size of Manhattan. Who knew?!
