Yes in the winter it can be cold. Temps around the country have been colder then normal this year. Plus there is more snow then normal.

If you love photography then you'll like it here. Most places have beautiful scenery. :)

I'm sure you will enjoy it here but it may take a bit of getting used to the cold. However, dress for it and you shouldn't have too many problems.

Ignore the person that said Canadians hate Americans.

Well this winter has been especially cold. I live in Alberta, and the past few weeks it has been -40 degrees C! So I'm guessing since you are from a hot climate it will seem very cold here unless you move to the west coast, like Vancouver, or Vancouver Island. For the most part people are very friendly, and welcoming to new people. Canada is a very diverse and multicultural country that I'm sure you will enjoy!

it can get pretty cold but if ur in toronto it can be really mild and sometimes really freezing...the people are generally nice - i lived in the states (southern pennsylvania) i was shocked at how nice people were in toronto minus the business men with their benz...if u can deal with multiculturalism than move to toronto otherwise dont bother coming up...and dont boast about being american its a real turnoff believe me ..i said i lived in the states and it was like dont associate with that gurl ..toronto's got many parks with excellent scenery for photography and there are really artsy places so you might really enjoy that ..good luck with ur move :D

I'm from Ontario, 100 miles north of Toronto, the biggest city.
I spend winters in Florida, to get away from the cold & snow.
With proper clothing, you can manage the cold well enough.

Murderotica
Well, I was speaking with an American the other day and he had just moved to Montreal, Quebec (don't remember from where though). He made me laugh because he was pretty pissed off at the temperature, saying he didn't sign up for this. I think he wasn't expecting this kind of cold lol. Then again, it all depends where you go. The Province of Quebec has been known to have some of the coldest winters. Anyway, you should probably invest in a good winter jacket ;)

wow - you are getting some silly answers here - to be honest, there isn't a whole lot of difference between US and Canada - culturally we are the same, and we are on the same land, so not much other difference there. You will find it colder here in the winter of course, but Canada is after all, more north than Florida. We have climates more like your northern states, such as Michigan, Minnesota or New York.

You'll find all the amenities here as you would in Florida - churches schools, shopping centres, tourist landmarks, etc...

If you're into photography, you will find beautiful places here too worthy of pictures - if you google on the image search Canada, you'll see some nice pictures too.

Good luck and hope this helped!

No, it isn't THAT cold. In fact, the weather on the West Coast isn't that much colder than the weather you are now experiencing. You'd probably like the West Coast because the life style there is very active, very outdoor-oriented and there are lots of things to do.

Five myths about Canada you need to know about!

1. Free health care.

Canada's health care is not free. It is funded by a heavy tax
regime that takes hard earned money from even the working poor. If
you make $C20,000 a year. You will be taxed. Make more? Like $C75,000
and up? Oh, you can bet you will get hit with taxes. In some
provinces like Alberta, you also get the additional privilege of
paying health care "premiums" on top of your taxes.

The big hospital unions like the Registered Nurses and various
so-called "para-professionals" have taken over the health care
system and destroyed it. This is what happens when you create a
a monopoly, and worse, a government owned monopoly.

2. High standard of living

Huh? Since when? This country has one of North America's biggest
drug ghettos. It's called Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. Canadians
have a lower per capita GDP than Americans. They also make less
money than Americans, and ironically many other countries: Ireland,
Germany, Switzerland to name just a few.

3. Peaceful

Nope! There are just as many acts of violent crime, drug gangs,
domestic murders in Canada as in the U.S. It's just never adjusted
for per capita, ie. the actual population of the two countries
and the size of the cities in each country. Canada has serial
killers, drug shootings, pollution, gang violence. How come we don't
hear much about this in the world's media, the way the U.S.'s
problems are constantly brought up?

4. Strong economy

No! Canadians just piggyback off the U.S. economy and they still
can't manage to get their unemployment rate down to anywhere near
to the U.S. rate, which was hovering in the low 5's most recently.
Canada's rate has varied over the last decade or more from 11% to
a low of about 7%. The country just sells off its raw natural
resources rather than having a productive economy through
strong innovation or research. Yet the Canucks complain about
selling those resources to the U.S. Huh?

5. Canadians are polite self effacing and humble

Whoa! Canadians are anything but polite and "European" as they
like to tell the world. Most Canadians I've met are ignorant,
boorish, self absorbed anti-American bigots. Go to a Canadian
workplace: see how they treat you, especially if you are a brown
or black person.

Go to a restaurant or a store. The tone is very cold and "British"
in nature. Look at how they drive. I have driven in Britain, the
U.S. (San Diego, Los Angeles, Palm Springs, Seattle area).
Nowhere have I seen such stupid backward drivers as I have seen
in B.C. and Alberta.

Basically Canada needs to have its huge pompous self absorbed ego
deflated. Canadians are hypocrites and they love to be delusional,
and self absorbed about how great they are. The U.S. incidentally is the
country where a lot of Canadians, (about 250,000 at last count), go
to live well, retire and of course, for employment. Hypocritical or
what?

o gosh more yankeebacks coming up here taking jobs away from hard working canadians. Why dont yall just stay in america, the so called greatest country in the world. Well atleast you will be in toronto. I moved there once, hated it. Its freezing up there like -33 weather. No cable or cell phones. Everyone talks like they all have ADHD. Most of them are devoted satanist and wiccans. Your better off staying in Florida miss.

You never lived in America...they hate America...acually, you've never heard of America. Yes, it is really THAT cold when it needs to be cold in WINTER. It is not another world! It is Canada, but still a BIG move.

Vancouver is probably the warmest spot in Canada. It may reach 75 in July.
You better get used to the following:
1. Poor spelling. Words such as color become colour
2. Everything in some really stupid language I believe it is french
3. They use a backwards measuring system called metric
4. Really high taxes to pay for a free mediocre health care system.
5 Really high gas prices based on liters.
6 A lot of American wannabees
7 Boring sports such as hockey, soccer or Canadian style football (cheap imitation of American football)
8 Beautiful scenery .(that's not there fault) for your photography.
9 Today is Boxing Day. On this day in 1967 Ali beat Frazier in Toronto
10 High speed limits up to 90 on freeways. Make sure you read 3 above.
11 More people of Asian descent compared to the US (most using it as a stepping stone to where they really want to go the US) otherwise not much multiculturism
12. Illegal immigration not a problem (No American in his/her right mind would try to sneek into Canada)
13. See a lot of Canadiens getting US tourist visas to get cheap gas and high quality medical treatment in US
14 Boring national anthem. You will definitely miss the US National Anthem
