Some people think it's cold in Calgary. Daytime temperatures have been in the high teens for over a week and sunny every day with zero precipitation. The only snow we've seen was on the National news from Ontario and Québec. |

Calgary is very young vibrant city. Lots of dollars floating around and lots of growth. Housing is tight so be sure you have something arranged before heading out there.
Its an hours and bit from Banff and the Rockies. You can see the Rockies from Calgary on clear days. So there is lots of opportunity for skiing, hiking, camping sort of thing. South of Calgary in Kananski is some of the best fly fishing in the world. They have colder winters than the east does but more sunshine and chinooks in the middle of winter which provide a nice break once in a while.
Calgary's pretty friendly and lots of recent immigrants to the city so accepting of that.

Calgary is a great city to live in. It does have its traffic problems, but not unlike any other Canadian city. Its a great size - bigger than Winnipeg, smaller than Vancouver. Northwest is a great area for families. The weather can be unsettled - so you always have to dress for the moment and take extras with you. But it is much milder than anywhere in Manitoba or Saskatchewan, and much less rain than Vancouver. Beautiful country, so you can fish and ski and bike, and really enjoy nature. Lots of concerts, good hockey, great restaurants, and really nice people who accept you. AND - NO provincial sales tax - yahoo! |

I have lived here 55 years and I love it. I'm not always crazy about the weather but if you wait 15 minutes it will change. |

it's a bit expensive, but the quality of life is better than Toronto or Montreal. Try to look for accommodation in the Northwest or the Southwest quadrants of the city (or maybe extreme Southeast), but stay away from neighborhoods like Marlborough and Forest lawn as there is a lot of crime in these areas. Otherwise, Calgary is fantastic.
P.S. (Oh yeah...be prepared for lousy drivers and traffic jam on Deerfoot; see site below) |
