What is it like to live in Surrey or Langley or Abbottford? |
We come from K/W Ontario, and are used to the snow and the hour drive to the big city. Does it snow in these places in the winter? I know North Van gets rain. Are there nice walking trails in these places? i.e. We love the atmosphere of North Van but cant afford it. |

The places you mentioned are the armpit of Greater Vancouver.
Go out to the Alma/Kitsilano area near the University of British Columbia. Find a place there. |

Hi. don't listen to the first 2 people who gave you those answers. I live in Surrey. and it is a nice place to live! It hardly snows here in the Winter, we do get rain, but not every single day like Prince Rupert B.C., we have a lot of Sunshine in the Summer, there are some walking trails in the Parks, Guildford Town Centre is a Big shopping mall. and right across from it is a big recreation centre with a library in it. There's also Surrey Central Mall, not as big, but convenient.
It might be a little expensive to live here, depends on what part you decide to look at. but not as expensive as North Van.
Also there is lots of access to busses and the Skytrain in Surrey. Hope I helped you. |

Hello,
I live in Abbotsford. It is a real nice place to live, great big park called Mill Lake.
As any other place /s we have our share of crime.
Rent can be abit high but you are a 45 min. drive outside of Vancouver.
Check out these web sites I'm listing:
http://www.hellobc.com/en-CA/RegionsCities/Abbotsford.htm?media=cpc&campaign=bce07&adgroup=actabbotsfordvacation&market=can&referrer=google-adwords

I even enclosed a newpaper site of all Canada, if you wanted to check out rent prices.
Thank you, have a good day ;-) |

My daughter and family love Abbotsford nice town not much snow,,Afordable housing you may want to check Mission, the West Coast Express train goes in to Vancouver and returns later.. Langlley and surrey have Bc transit surrey Has the Skyn train to Vancouver North Delta is also nice. We live in Burnaby $ 650.00 for a nice 1 bed room close to metro town |

The area with the best proximity to walking and hiking trails is definitely North Van. If you plan on skiing, North Van is the place to be as it's the only place close to the snow. The rest of the Lower Mainland gets it rarely.
If being outdoors is important, there are nice areas around Burnaby Mountain that are a lot less expensive than North Van. There is a network of trails around the mountain and Deer Lake is close by.
I lived in Abbotsford some years ago and I'd rate it as just OK. It has become a big, sprawling bedroom community. You'd be better off living in Mission which has a West Coast Express Station. Mission has suffered from a bad reputation in the past, but is really changing. If you're thinking of buying there, it's one of the few places where prices are likely to go up considerably in the next few years. You can still buy a house there for under $300,000.
Port Coquitlam and some parts of Coquitam are often overlooked. You are still close to the mountains and walking/hiking trails like you would be in North Van, but it's not as expensive to live there. The commute times are generally shorter or equivalent to those in Surrey.
Langley is really nice, but the commute will likely take you longer than an hour.
I'd stay away from Surrey, Abbotsford and most parts of Maple Ridge. |

I live in Surrey, and have for about 10 years. We get probably a little less rain then Vancouver, but more snow in the cold season (at least, it stays around longer in the Valley areas)
There are a lot of walking trails all over Surrey and Langley, you can basically walk into any of the parks and find a grouping of trails that you can choose from. I prefer Tynehead park's trails myself though.
If you are driving into Vancouver every day, then you have a few options for easy driving...
Surrey: Guildford and Fleetwood are just a hop away from the highway
Langley: Same deal, but a further drive
Abbotsford: Will approximately double your daily drive, but all highway, so you may be able to save some time by doing that...but there is a lot of construction on that highway....slows everyone down. |

Surrey is bum town full of potheads and drug addicts. Langley and abbotsford is where the white people live. Lot's of them are christian, mennonite, just as crazy as the potheads, but blond, good looking and with money.
Nice places are also in richmond, coquitlam and west side and north burnaby. |
