After living in different places in Europe, USA, Asia and Canada - I have to admit that Vancouver is one of the if not THE most lovable city in the world. The majority of Canadians are friendly and open minded. From that comes a pleasant culture and living environment. Vancouver enjoys the natural beauty of the mountains and the sea. There are distinct seasons (missing in my part of Asia). It has all the "usual amenities of the city" while still being relatively small and you can be in the Forrest in 10-40 minutes depending on where you live. An hours drive or more gives you the wonderful mountains - in winter with snow.
Perhaps one of the short comings is the absence of "high level cultural entertainment" like, opera, theater or musical which is usually available for a limited time and years after it starts on Broadway (so for Theater I go to London or New York).
See you in Beautiful British Columbia |

very similar to Seattle, but more mountains.
people might work in the city and live in the suburbs (pretty much like everywhere else), but a large number of people head to nature for their time away from work and everyday things... |

Live there myself and I think of it as a wonderful place if I don't think about the high cost of living and the insane real estate market. |

What's it like - after living/studying there it is one of the most depressing places because of like 9 months of rain even though it is beautiful place. When it's nice outside, it's like no one goes to work because of all the rain they get - people are working but hardly. lol It's bloddy expensive and the governments ...ummm bites to put it in a polite way and doesn't do much for the citizens of BC. The cost of living is a joke, you get taxed to death - all for what, the mountains and ocean? Give me a break, I'd rather a decent living be taxed less - save up money and travel the world. You may say I'm only focusing on the negative, I've lived all over Canada and outside of Canada - seeing it from different views and it's not that great but it all depends on what one wants. If you're obsessed with nature and don't care about anything else, then it's for you.

It rains a lot. It is one of the least friendly places in Canada. The cost of living is high. Because of bad planning, the traffic is very congested. Good luck finding a place to park. On the plus side, being a multicultural city makes it interesting. It has beautiful natural surroundings. It's a good place to live if you have a lot of money and you're in to outdoor sports like sailing and rollerblading. There are a lot of artists, but not generally a lot of interest in arts and culture in the population. I'm an artist and I used to live there but I got out. |
