Quebec is the largest province in Canada (in terms of area) and the second most populous, after Ontario, with a population of 7,598,100 (Statistics Canada, July 2005). This represents about 24% of the Canadian population. Quebec's official language is French and is the only Canadian province where English is not an official language. The capital is Quebec City (Québec or la ville du Québec in French) and the largest city is Montreal.

A resident of Quebec is called a Quebecer (also spelled Quebecker), and in French, un(e) Québécois(e), the latter also sometimes used in English.

Just as the United States is composed of 50 states, 48 of which are contiguous, Canada is composed of 10 provinces and 3 territories. They are, in alphabetical order:

The 10 provinces: Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Québec, & Saskatchewan.

The 3 territories are: The Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and the Yukon territory.

Québec lies in central-eastern Canada. "It is bordered on the west by the province of Ontario, James Bay, and Hudson Bay; on the east by the Gulf of St. Lawrence, and the province of Newfoundland and Labrador; on the north by Hudson Strait and Ungava Bay; and on the south by the province of New Brunswick, and the states of New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine."*

"Québec covers an area of 1,542,056 sq km (595,391 sq mi), including 176,928 sq km (68,312 sq mi) of inland fresh water. This huge territory has a triangular shape and occupies approximately one-sixth of Canada’s landmass. At its greatest extreme, the province measures 1,957 km (1,216 mi) from north to south and 1,687 km (1,048 mi) from east to west. Québec’s territory includes the Magdalen Islands and Anticosti Island, both in the Gulf of St. Lawrence."*

It is a most beautiful place and the largest province in Canada. I highly encourage you to visit it when the opportunity presents itself. I hope that helped. Good luck to you in all your endeavours. Take very good care and have yourself a most joyous day, every day.

* The quotes are from the Encarta encyclopaedia article on Québec! It was just easier and more convenient to quote the site, rather than compose something in my own words at 1:48 AM EST!
