What is the age to be able to leave the country by driving? |
Me and my brother plan on driving to Vancouver for the 2010 Winter Olympics. My brother will be 18, and I will be 16. Is there an age you have to be in order to leave the country?
Thanks! :) |

You will need a letter from your parents giving you permission to travel across the border because you are a minor, anyone under the age of 18 is considered a minor. Even though you are going with your brother you will still need your parents consent.
Canada takes minors traveling with out their parents very seriously, so they may ask you to provide a notarized note, it should have all your parents info, contact numbers address, as well as state that yes you have their permission to travel to Canada for this period time, state the dates you will be gone, where you will be staying, who you are with or staying with, when you are expected back.
The link below is the Canadian Version of the letter but it will give you an idea of what it needs to include.
2nd Link is the US Border Patrol info on minors traveling with out their parents.
As for ID you will need a passport at that time for any mode of travel, effective June 1/2009 all travelers will require a passport. |

Whether you drive, walk, swim or fly, if you are a minor you have to have a notarized statement from your parents that you have permission to take this trip. |

"Hi"......all my esteemed fellow colleagues answering you here seem to be missing the most important point !
Unless you intend on sleeping in your car in the dead of winter in Whistler whether it be during an Olympic event or not then you won't have a problem !
If not then your problem I'm afraid is that the hotels in Whistler do not rent to anyone under 25 years of age....period !
The hoteliers are "stinkers" unfortunately but that's the truth.....and even if you had an adult with you, you'd have to book something within the next 20 minutes because it is during an Olympic event and booked solid ...seriously ( even Vancouver )!
Try and explain that one at the Canadian border when they ask you where you are staying , and they will, Letter of Consent or not .
I know that's not what you wanted to hear but it's fact and the most important one ! *S* (Michael C...) |

You can leave the country, but you may need a not from your parents since your not 18. It wouldl be wise to have one just in case. |

As long as both of you obtain passports their should not be a problem. |
