Canadians do it because of idiot Americans like Biffnasty and I am A Nice Guy! Stereotypical Americans to us! They give your whole country a bad smell. |

I think most of the aggrevation arises out of the fact the so many Americans seem to know nothing about any other country and they ask some really dumb questions, such as "are there stores in Canada?" "How do I get to downtown Canada?" "What kind of food should I expect to eat in Canada?" "Do you have schools in Canada?" For schools you can substitute airports, roads, television, electricity, etc.
And my all time favourite "where can I go skiing in July and August?" or "I am coming to Canada in July should I bring snow boots?"
Saw another tourist today, it was about 110F in the interior (no matter what nonsense the Weather Channel says) wearing what appeared to be a wool long sleeve shirt with a heavy jacket tied around their waist and heavy pants on that might have also been wool -- but I dont understand, the radio said it was only 44 degrees today, why does it feel so hot?
I have seen tourists come across the border towing a trailer with skidos on it, and skis on the rack of their car, in July, who are heading for the interior of BC, not the arctic --
For me this is the biggest aggrevation, the ignorance about Canada, the climate, the people who live here, etc
Nice guy, if I were you I would really think about who you are calling "dumb" here - your attitude is dumb, and your ignorance (let me give you the definition of the word because you probably dont know that either - it means lack of knowledge) is an embarassment to your countrymen |

proximity and jealousy on both sides for different reasons. It's like teasing your brother though. There's very little bad faith involved. At least I think so. |

Mainly because they have nothing better to do but diss someone else, sometimes to be mean, sometimes just to see what kind of responses they get. Much has to do with the ways they were raised. In the US because your Nation was founded through conflict, it (almost) seems to us up here that conflict is all you know. We gained our independence by asking for it and by recognizing the founding Nations by being a bilingual country so instead of conflict our nation was born and raised through negotiation . That is where the main difference lies. In our differing history you cannot relate to ours as we cannot relate to yours. But we are the envy of the world and I hope you don't isolate yourselves but if you do, somehow, I think we will still be there with you in most things. We may not always agree but neighbors don't always agree. Our Country is great, your Country is great, you think you are better but we know we are, you think, we know(said that just to piss some off, lol). Anyway, have a great day, try not to piss off another Country until at least 2008, sometime after November, please and thanks... |

Proximity, maybe familarity with the other country. Kind of a bit of sibling type rivalry, both sides have to find something that makes the other different, so both will try to emphasise those differences. Or maybe its just boredom, and too much beer. Here in a border state, we are very familar with canadians since people on both sides of the border cross to the other for various reasons, shopping, visit family, vacations. |

We're so similar that we need to find a way to differentiate ourselves. SOmetimes this becomes hostile. I once heard someone call Canada "America's Hat". While America has been around for alot longer and declared independance from Britiain before Canada, they see themselves as superior, somehow. Canadans are notorious for generalizing America's attitude towards things like foreign policy and such, but really, we're all the same people, living in North Ameerica, sharing our resources and attempting to get along. However, some feel the need to poke fun at eachother (Ie. Canadians live in igloos, pour maple syrup on everything, Americans are ignorant and stupid) but what it comes down to is that we stereotype eachother. Badly. And we don't take it well. |

well it simply comes down to canada being jealous of AMERICA...canada simply copies everything that we do..tv, music, fashion, politics, everything...its embarrassing how little canada has to offer to this world....i mean why do you see so many canadians sewing AMERICAN flags to their backpacks when they travel abroad?
please carl p.....calling other people name just isn't nice....and that smell your referring to is coming from canada...its called failure |
