What is the best city to live in on the west coast? ?

I am thinking of moving from Ontario to either B.C. or Alberta. I am going to drive across the country. I am single and will be looking for work. I just want to live in a nice city that is somewhat affordable, because I will most likely have a job at a bookstore or a similar retail job. So if anyone has some ideas or advice, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Since you are driving across the country, this is the only peice of advice I can give for my area.

Instead of going on the Trans-Canada West to VAncouver, hang South of Calgary and go on Highway 3 West to VAncouver. Absolutley beautiful towns and cities on that highway, and just unreal scenery.

THEN if you're ever driving back, go on the Trans-Canada so you can make an accurate comparison of the Okanagan with the Slocan valley.

Vancouver BC is huge and the people try and drive you off the road. I personally love the okanagan and victoria is aboslutely gorgeous.

I agree with the person below me. I am from that area (in alberta now though) and either way- going through banff to the bottom corner of bc (the kootenays), or through the rogers pass (towards the okanagan) are both absolutely gorgeous.
I dont know how big of a city you want but I think BC has absolutely everything to offer.

And as for Alberta- where I live now, in Calgary. It can't even begin to compare.

Have you considered Calgary in Alberta instead of Vancouver. I have lived in Calgary for 7 years now and I love it. Weather wise it is just like vancouver and hooter than the city north of it Edmonton. I see a lot of book stores there and lots of coffe houses. Plus Calgary has a great downtown. Did i mention it has a great view of the Rocky Mountains. And if you feel like hiking go up there. It's only 30 min. away. If you feel like having a great view they also have the elbow river that runs right through Calgary. Also if you feel like fishing go to the Glemore resovoir just south of Calgary. Thank you. Hope to see you in Calgary.
