What is the best place to live, have a job, have family, peaceful place to be in Canada ?

We are moving to Canada from the US very soon. We don't know where to go to !?!?
We are thinking we would like stay by the east coast area where we think is a little warmer than the rest of the country, Is that true ?
So where do you suggest ?
Thanks for all the help you can give us!

it's hard to say....I think you may consider to take a trip to few cities and spend some time to make sure which one would be the best for you and your family

It realllly depends on what type of work you are looking for, as different provinces have different high points. The warmest climates (year round) are on Vancouver Island without a doubt, then southern Ontario, and the eastern provinces (although very snowy and wet).

I would avoid Alberta if you wish to raise children, unless it is in Calgary or southern Alberta. The pay in alberta is good, but the people arn't overly welcoming.

British Columbia is quite nice, but there isn't an abundance of work here. Not for long term anyway, but up until the olympics maybe so. I would avoid raising a family in vancouver as it is super expensive and a bit sketchy. Maybe a surrounding town would be fine.

Vancouver Island is a beautiful, pristine and peaceful place to live with a great climate. I live in Victoria and it is quite nice for families and work, but again it depends on the job. Construction is huge, as is clerical.

Also, if you can bare the wet snowy winters, I would always recommend St. John's, NL. Jobs are not the best paying, but living is super cheap, the people beat the rest of Canadians for friendliness, it is safe (I used to walk alone at night on a regular basis, no fear) and has a real sense of community. It us very peaceful and welcoming in every respect.

I also hear Manitoba is nice, but cold. Avoid Ontario, as everyone goes there, and avoid the territories, unless you can brave extreme cold and isolation.

Hope this helps! If you have more questions about living costs, etc. check out the websites of specific cities, look at wikipedia for the cities, as it can give the best info (well rounded) and always try craigslist for housing prices (for the larger cities).

Anywhere in Canada..........There are many beautiful places on the East Coast. If you really have no preference, close your eyes and just point at the map. It really depends on what type of work you will be doing as well......Smaller towns/cities tend to be more "peacefull" than the larger, more populated ones, but then work might be an issue if your field is not available there. I think anywhere in Southern Canada would tend to be warmer than other places. I lived in Niagara Falls most of my life, and it gets damn hot there in the Summer months, but it is also in a snow belt and gets wacky winter weather as well. Now I live in Northern Ontario, it is currently -23 and I am loving every minute of it. Completely different type of winter up here, not slushy and wet. Just cold........Where are you moving from? And did you generally enjoy the lifestyle there? Those questions might help you figure out if you are looking for the same or would like the opposite this time around.

With out a doubt I would say southern Ontario, the climate is perfect, Hot summers and snowy winters. Furthermore there tonnes of jobs around, being so near to major canadian cities i.e Toronto, Hamilton, Mississauga etc. Plus the people are extremely welcoming and friendly. But a word of advise southern ontario is the most populated area of the whole of Canada, so if your trying to escape the hustle and bustle of city live of something then its not really ideal for you. But on a more postive note there are lots of good schools in southern ontario and plenty for your kids to do.

Easiest suggestion would be for you to go to mls.ca and check on housing costs in areas. Take a map of Canada, look for cities or towns the size you like, and on the mls site you can see what homes are selling for. Once you find an area , the Government of Canada web-site has a National job bank link where you can check for work in the area. By the east coast, do you mean the Maritimes, New brunswick, P.E.I., Nova Scotia or Quebec and Ontario? Moncton, New Brunswick is a great area for a family with reasonable housing costs, short drive to some of the best beaches in summer, P.E.I. has little violent crime, great place to raise a family. Work in not as plentiful as other area but jobs are here and with homes much more affordable than in southern Ontario, B.C. interior, or most parts of Alberta. Much will depend on what you want. Government of Canada web-site also has links to winter temperatures in all areas as well. Maritimes stay just below freezing for much of the winter, sometimes a little colder, sometimes a little warmer. We tend to get a lot of snow but again, you get used to it.Good luck with your search and welcome to Canada.

Well I like right above Washington State, over the border.
Vancouver and a bit beyond.. The weather is much like Washington and not cold as other parts of Canada. You are still close to the the USA and the people are generous and very nice... I have found that I was accepted there much easier than lets say above the east coast. The prices of homes are climbing up but you can get a great deal for the money.... And nothing beats their health system... We need it here....

Okanagan Valley on the US border in British Columbia is consistently the sunniest (except for Southern Alberta) and warmest part of Canada. Temperatures in the summer can exceed 100 degrees. Winters on the East Coast are at least as bad as winters in New England.

The East coast is hugely cheaper than the West, maybe half the cost, if not lower. But the East isn't cold as it is wet. I live in Halifax, and we had maybe a handful of days that went below zero, but a lot of snow and slush. It doesn't even snow when its cold. Halifax is the largest eastern city of 300,000 people. The cost of living is low, but so are the wages, and we have a huge unemployment rate here. Failed economy for the most part. But beautiful, but not safe. Actually the highest crime rates in all of Canada are in Halifax. For specifically malicious crimes, all random, lynchings and swarmings by teenagers for the most part. I don't even walk the streets at night myself.

Depends where in the USA you are from, and if you want similar or different. Many different areas all with pros and cons. Lived on Vancouver Island for a while, very beautiful scenery and temperate climate, but believe it or not I miss the hot summers, and the cold winters. Family near Halifax, but although pretty, I found a little boring. Good pay in Alberta, but high prices and problems with sudden fast growth. I love Bobcaygeon Ontario. Quaint small town 1.5 hrs. north of Toronto, in the Kawartha Kakes region. Give us a google.

Raindrop
British Columbia for sure! The West Coast of Canada tends to have much nicer weather year round and as long as you stay in the southern part of BC then the winters are pretty mild too. Vancouver Island has many beautiful cities and towns that you might want to consider.

Welcome to Canada!
