Stanley Park, the aquarium and rose garden, the historical tour through the Big Bus company, the bars and dance clubs between Nielsen and Granville, close to the Samesun Hostel, the symphony is down there, the hookers are hilarious. Good drink specials and we saw English Bay and Coal Harbour. Harbour Center is great for pictures.
Also, go see the Emily Carr exhibit at V.A.G. and check out the Michel Blais gallery. I also recommend Pacific Mall, Waterfront area and Granville Island. The P.N.E. and Cirque de Soleil is down there and they now have their own version of Wonderland.
The Persian tea room is dark and moody but I enjoy that type of thing once in a while. I liked their Taco Times better, too. There was a lovely store full of interesting Persian imports, esp. rugs.
Dr. Sun yat-Sen's gardens, too. Avoid the Robson shopping district, unless you're into packing bags full of Calvin Klein. There were no thrift shops like the Okanagan valley, though. |

I used to live near Seattle and went to Vancouver a few times. I never stayed more than 24 hours, though. All we really did was site-see, bar hopping, club hopping, and cruise around downtown. |

Vancover was great!!!
I would go to the Suspension Bridge. It's a must see.
The Capilano Suspension Bridge is a simple suspension bridge crossing the Capilano River in the District of North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The current bridge is 136 metres long and 70 metres above the river. It is part of a private facility, with a charge for admission, and draws over 800,000 visitors a year. North Shore residents often go to the nearby Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge instead, as there is no admission fee.

You will find it all here in Vancouver!
to get a real feel for Vancouver...take the aquabus from the bottom of Thurlow street across to Granville Island (thurlow is downtown) It's a tiny ferry that will take you to granville island public market for about $2.50($4 return) and after wandering around there..then come back on the aquabus and walk the sea wall around stanley park...It's beautiful and relaxing and you'll get the best feel of Vancouver that you can get...It's about 10 miles around..but if you get tired you can always cut through one of the forested trails in the middle of the park...come! enjoy! |

drive up to whistler,. there is ;lots to do. Take the ferry to victoria. You can do whale watching from the victoria harbour. The best scuba diving place is porteau cove which is about 1 hour north of vancouver, half way to Whistler. The sailing is fabulous, although you do need a boaters permit (it's like a drivers licence)- I don't know if this applies to visitors or not. Fishing- again you need to get a licence, there are lots of charter boats for hire- it will be Salmon season then. as for music check out the ticketmaster.ca website. Also check out the tourism vancouver website and the hello bc website for more ideas. |

Great SCUBA diving. Check with Pennant Marine or Ecomarine to find out about gear rentals. Sailing is super -- there are several yacht clubs in Vancouver, fishing is great. Music is super. Everything from concert orchestras playing on top of Grouse Mountain and at the reflecting pond at Simon Fraser University, to rock, reggae and jazz festivals. The folk festival has just ended (too bad) but there's lots more music around, in all genres.
You can rent a bike and ride around Stanley Park, or around UBC, or do both if you're feeling really ambitious. You can paddle a kayak, an outrigger canoe, or go sculling if you wish. Lynn Canyon, in North Vancouver, is spectacular. They have a tree-top walk, and a 230 foot high suspension bridge. Log on to HelloBC.com for more great suggestions. Your only problem will be finding enough time to do them all.
If you're interested in theatre, Bard on the Beach (Shakespeare) is running all summer. It's tent productions of some of the Bard's best works. And the International Festival of Fireworks will be on while you're here -- Saturday the 29th, the following Wednesday and the next Saturday as well. If you're staying in the downtown area, you're in luck. It goes at English Bay with fireworks choreographed to music, in a four country competition. And it's all free.
Have fun on your visit! |
