(b-aa-nf)

Actually, most say Baamf (yes, I know it's wrong, it's just what comes out).

Banff is pronounced Bamf -- and 'n' makes an 'm' sound when you try to put an n and f too close together.

B-aa-nf, Alberta.

baanf. i love saying that.

What a great question! Its funny you never think of these things when it comes to places you are so familiar with. Its pronounced the same as 'ban' and just add the 'ff'. Your mouth just automatically slurs over the n and gets the right pronunciation. I remember my aunt from out East laughing her head off when I said 'Etobicoke', where she lives, and pronounced it Et-a-bi-co-kee. I was amazed that it was actually pronounced like E-tob-i-coe. LOL. Its like when I worked for a large computer company in Canada and we had to fly to Detroit a lot. No one ever wanted to say they were going to Detroit (no fun), so we all said we were going to 'Day-twa'. (gave it our westerner version of a French accent). Then people would say, 'wow, where's that!)

Alyssa J
yup, ban as in banned and add the f sound.

head a few hours west to visit Craigellachie (the last spike in the transcontinental railroad) and see if you can figure out how the heck you say that (i gave up and just call it the last spike)
