What is the difference between American money and Canadian money? |
Is American money worth more in Canada, or worth less in Canada, or about the same?
Say I'm coming to Canada, what would my $100 in American be equal to there in Canadian money then? |

$100 USD would be equal to $101 CAD |

I am not sure why judgeth got the thumbs down because he was pretty close.
100.00 USD = 101.850 CAD
Exchange is not a stable thing - it can change from one minute to another and for all manner of reasons.
Does it have the same buying power? Well that depends on what you are buying. Generally speaking, I would have to say the same 100 can buy more in the States but even that is not cut and dried. Sales taxes vary in the provinces here and in each State there; shipping costs may be higher in one place than another etc etc etc.
And insane moves on the part of the various governments may make a difference too. For example, if you are a smoker, bring a supply from home. A pack of 25 can cost $10 or $11 here. It is allowed to kill you with pollutants from car exhaust and industry waste but we Canadians are working hard to prevent you're being killed by cigarette smoke.
June22 edit Dangerman may be correct about exchanging money via vendors but if you use a bank to change it before you come you may have better luck providing they do not have out of sight service charges. Canadian Vendors taking American money is a courtesy - American vendors do not offer the same service except at some border towns. |

Right now about $101, the exchange rate has been at par or very close since last summer. The Canadian dollar has actually been worth more than the US dollar. But that doesn't mean things are the same prices because while the Canadian and US are close, the price of things in Canada is usually higher. Books are a very good example, in US it is around $5.99 in Canada same book is $8.99.
$1 and $2 bills haven't been used in years and years. The US also $2 bills but they are not seen very much, just once in a blue moon. |

No $1 or $2 bills anymore. We now have loonies and toonies, coins worth $1 and $2. |

I think the US dollar is currently worth 1-3 cents more than the Canadian dollar on the exchange. But you also have to take into account the 5% the bank steals from you for performing the exchange. Your cash should be worth around $95-98. |

You would be better off to google the currency rates daily.
It is more likely par with ours. It changes every day, but Canada has finally gotten up to and sometimes over the $1. rate of yours. hoooraaay
And the visual difference is ours has different colours, and yours is all green/but we call it play money up here.
We have no bills for the1 dollar or 2 dollar, only Loonies and Tooeys coins/with Loon and Polar bear. on the opposite side of our gracious Queen....so more pocket change to lug around........hope this helps. |

well for starters Canadian money has dead Prime Ministers and reigning Monarchs on one side of our money, whilst the US has only dead Presidents.
Canadian money is multi-coloured and very pretty the US is mostly just dull green BUT they are introducing some colour into their money a bit at a time.
Canadians were forced to accept a $1 & $2 coins whilst the US tried a couple of times to introduce a $1 and failed to take the $1 bill out of circulation.
The exchange rate changes minute by minute but it is safe to say the money is at par and that you will always get ripped off on the exchange rates its just a matter of deciding how badly you want to get ripped off. The store where my daughter works charges 5% on the American money so 1 US dollar is worth 95 cents Canadian and I've seen it the other way around in the states. Don't expect a big bargon on the exchange rate. |

They're values are pretty much the same now. Most places take them at par....i.e. dollar for dollar. It varies up and down 5% every now and then. Last year 1 US dollar was worth $1.20 in Canada (approx) but your economy has dropped so much recently (and ours is thriving) that it is pretty much equal now. For a while the US was actually worth about 5 cents to 10 cents less. |

There is very little difference these days. However, with Bush in charge of the country, I would think that Canadian money would be the more stable of the two. |

Canadian money is much prettier (different colors) and they have $2 bills.....
but as far as the value, you can Google "currency calculator" and get the exchange rate for any two currencies. |
