Some great answers here, especially germanada, lioneyes, and oighrig!!!

Our excellent health care system has to top the list of the differences. My husband has cancer and if we lived in the US we would be bankrupt right now and he would probably be dead. We have travelled extensively in the US and have looked into him getting some of his treatments there if we can take a trip. Just one of his treatments that he gets here every four weeks for no charge simply by walking in to the cancer clinic (where he is treated with kindness, care, extreme thoughtfulness) would cost about $1200 US each time in Florida, which is the only state we've checked.

Our outlook on life is different. We are a bit more relaxed about life - maybe because we don't have the same kind of worries about basics like health care.

We tend to know more about the rest of the world. In the US the focus seems to be more inward, while we tend to look outward toward the rest of the world.

Certainly we have lots of differences, but we do have many similarities too. After all, we do share one of the the longest (probably the longest) undefended borders in the world.

There are three big differences between Canada and america; 1. Canada has universal health care, 2. Our government head, the Prime Minister, is accountable to the people and can be thown out of office...example - Joe Clark, Canada pays it's fees to the United Nations.

Some other differences are: you can buy Cuban cigars and Cuban Rum; we have never gone to war with our fellow Canadians; we didn't massacre thousands of First Nations People; we didn't give Sadam Hussan money to go to war with Iran; we got out of Viet Nam knowing they would eventually do what was right for them; we don't meddle in other countries affairs; we didn't enslave other races; we don't fix our elections; we are polite; we don't abuse our natural resources; we have some of the cleanest inland waters in the world; we didn't sell scrap metal to the Japanese so they got attack our country; we didn't sell guns to terrorists in South America; other nations love and respect Canadians for who they are and what they do.

Canadians invented the space arm, telephone, basketball, electric stove, light bulb, electron mircoscope, electric streetcar, green ink for printing money, heart pacemaker, IMax movie system, Insulin, JAVA script, music synthesizer, newsprint, paint roller, plexiglas, radio transmitted voice, Quartz clock, robertson screws, screw propeller (for ships), snowblower, snowmobile, standard time, television, television camera, walkie talkies, wireles radio, zipper, air-conditioned railway coach, Acetylene, automatic postal sorter, fathometer, five pin bowling, electric wheelchair, goalie mask, hydrofoil boat, Superman, anti gravity suite, Stol aircraft, washing machine, submarine telegraph cable, ginger ale, green plastic garbage bags, frozen fish. The list goes on and on.

I think it would have been easier to ask 'What does Canada and the u.s. have in common?'

Canada is a very clean modern multicultural society where we respect each others heritage. We are law abiding citizens and are not War lovers. We have an excellent Health Care System and we are compassionate to our visitors.

I don't know how to sum up an entire nation's history and culture into a few sentences. If you are an American I suggest that you spend some time up here to get acquainted with the differences (keeping in mind that there are regional differences as well). If you're Canadian, it should be obvious what our differences are.

And btw, our weather isn't really that different from the northern states.

Canadians know how to make love in a canoe. We also know that a real case of beer has 24 bottles. And, we have 53 different words for "snow".

OK there r a lot of differences first in Canada they talk in English and french but in America the American language
both of them is of the developed countries but the income in America more than Canada a little bit
Canada cares a lot for the environment but America not

kray_z_blu
The difference is: They are two different countries, each having their own differences (culture, #of languages, provinces, area, people..and a whole lot more). The main similarity is that both countries are part of NORTH AMERICA.

the Canadians are more educated then the yanks, also the Canadians have a better sense of humor

I guess first and most impotant difference is that in canada we have 2 official languages, english and french as for
the states, only english (not american language)
that thing about how canadians talk, you can also find it in certain parts of the states where people talk funny too, so
that's not a valid example of differences between both countries
there isn't much difference really, they both come from english immigrants (except for quebec), that's
why they even call each other "cousins". Economically, both are devoloped countries and right now, politically, they both have similar views in their governments.

In Canada one place is pretty much like the last, too big to see new things in a short visit. The country is bi-lingual but few speak french outside of Quebec. Everyone in the Government thinks about himself only. Toronto is dirty and full of homeless people. For the tourist everything is about 30 percent more expensive than in the USA. Taxes are very high.
