What is the differences between America and Canada? Is Canada a good place to live?how do U deal with the BCC? |
Bone chilling cold all fall, winter and spring?I live in Alabama USA so we only see that kind of cold once every 50 years.saw me first heavy snowfall late last year.you can see how we reacted to it on U Tube. just type in snow in Phil Campbell, AL. It was crazy! It took a week to clear up I didn't drive whole time walked instead and stayed VERY close to home. |

I love living in Canada. It is a misconception that we have bone chilling cold for spring and fall. In fact, even our winters aren't too bad. There is usually only a week or 2 where it is so cold that we need to plug in our vehicles. As far as spring, by mid-March the snow is melting if not already melted, and by April, we even see short and t-shirt weather. By May we are camping. In the fall, we normally don't see any snow until November. I think that since we read our temperatures in celcius instead of fahrenheit, Americans think that it is way colder here than it is. For example, if they say it's 20 here, it means approximately 70 to you guys.
As far as other differences, there are many. We have higher minimum wages than the US, so, on average, we make more money. Plus, we have more employee friendly labour laws. For example, if I have a child, the law is that I get 1 year off, with 55% of my wages paid for by the government. Many workplaces will top this off so that a woman can get 100% of her wages for a whole year while she is off to care for her child. We pay more in taxes, admittedly. However, our higher taxes mean that we enjoy a great standard of living. We have free universal health care. Also, when I was in university, I only paid about $3500 per semester in tuition fees, because the government provides money to post-secondary institutions to keep tuition down. It wasn't a crappy university, either. It had the top Education program in North America, and the 3rd best emerging Business School in North America. Our public schools are well funded. Canada also only has about 1/10 of the population of the US, which means that our cities and provinces are less crowded. It's a great place to live, and I would never want to live anywhere else in the world. |

Yeah the weather is cold in winter, depending on world climate.
We are very simliar countries, having mixed economies, however Canada does have more "socialized system" then the states. This is often frowned upon by the more free market geared U.S. (depending on who you speak to and their slant of course).
Taxes are higher here, but that includes health care and a host of other social saftey nets.
Believe it or not, that does not seem to invite abuse any more than elsewhere.
Canadians (generally) are stereotyped as being laid back and cool headed, but I find we are just as emotional, just about different things.
Political correctness is much more ingrained here, especially in urban centers, especially because our multicultural system. The U.S. has the melting pot, while Canada encourages other cultures to keep their own ways if they wish.
There are tons of differences, however we are very simliar in lifestyle I think. We have a somewhat European influence, but I don't mean that as a bad or good, it just is.
We can be a bit snobby too. We are kinda like Americans in that way, we think we are right, however we just don't tell other people that often. ;) |

Hey, it's not our fault if your people are not hearty enough to handle a little cold. It's minus 6 and sunny today in Alberta and I go out in a spring jacket and sweater. Yes, there is cold but we learn to handle it and embrace it as part of being Canadian. We don't close down our Capital over a 1/2 inch of snow. We don't close the airports over a few flurries and if it's too snowy to drive we just take the skidoo. Mind you, it very rarely gets too snowy to drive. We just keep a shovel in the trunk. |

considering AL is different from all of the other states in the USofA, Canada would be a culture shock for you. And BCC is easier to deal with then the stifling humid sauna-like weather in AL. |

yes Canada is a good place to live. The climate varies alot. The southern part of Canada where most people live is same climate as northern states like new york and michigan. There are cold snaps and snowy periods but from may-october the weather is as warm as florida. In the western edge around Vancouver our climate is actually similar to mid-southern states like carolinas. We see snow a few times a year and some winters get by without any of the white stuff on the ground at sea level. (and yes drivers here are equally inept at dealing with snow, a few inches and traffic snarls ensue)_ |

The cold in Canada is no worse than in Minnesota and the Dakotas.
And really, the climate is considered easier to live with than the dripping humidity and heat of Alabama. At least the cold does not suck the willingness to work out of you.
That said I live in LA now where it is warm and the humidity is low. |

Probably the same way they deal with marrying a relative in Alabama, you get used to it. And what's with the bone chilling cold all fall, winter and spring? You think you can ski across canada in May? Canada's great btw. It's not all igloos and mounties. |
