If your destination is Ontario, you might want to try somewhere near Lake Muskoka, like Deerhurst Resort. The water is not too cold in July and August. I live on Lake Huron all year round (the Great Lakes are basically like oceans) and the best sandy beach towns are places like Grand Bend (and the Pinery for camping), Sauble Beach, Wasaga Beach, etc. You can easily rent beach front cottages in these places. The farther north you go the less sand you get. |

There are lots of popular ones, don't know the 'most'. Saskatchewan has a zillion lakes (well, actually 100,000), and is an amazing province. There are lakes through the south and central parts, but the most wonderful ones are up north, where there is fishing, camping, you can rent houseboats, etc.

If you're on the West Coast, go to Parksville on Vancouver island. The island itself is small enough to drive around in a couple of days, but it's beautiful. lots of whale spotting places up northern island, clam digging in the south and if you stay to the east side of the island, the water is so warm. |

houseboating on shuswap lake in BC. so much fun, except now it's getting a bit crowded with all the boats out there. still fun, and the water is definitely not too cold. |

Niagara Falls has water, but not exactly of the Ocean or Lake Resort style :D
Moraine Lake Lodge, located in Banff National Park, is absolutely stunning, and is the most photographed piece of scenery in North America. You can't swim in the lake, because its glacier-fed, but you can canoe and fish! It also has some of the best hiking trails in Canada. |
