Canada is so vast that it covers a wide variety of foods in different areas. Here are some examples.

MARITIMES
The maritime provinces are noted for their seafood, and various recipes have emerged with cod, crab, and scallops from that area. PEI is the smallest province, but everyone knows about the red potatoes from that region being some of the best.

QUEBEC
The French culture has influenced many of the dishes, and so you see a lot of meat pies, meals that have various sauces or gravies, and quiche made from local produce (eggs, ham, etc).

ONTARIO
This central province has been strongly influenced by both immigration and the proximity to the USA and so many dishes have a more worldly presence, but portions tend to be quite large as well.

PRAIRIES
The Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta areas are heavily into cattle raising and wheat, so it is not surprising to see large steaks go down with local vegetables and lots of bread or rolls on the table. This does not mean that they eat this every day, but is the thing you would most think about if you went to a restaurant and said I want something that is pretty much native prairie food.

WEST COAST
British Columbia is the area I know the least about as I have never actually been there and only know a few people there. However, based on my knowledge of the climate and local people, I would suspect the meals would focus on pacific coast products, such as its seafood (pacific salmon, alaskan king crab) and local vegetables. With the influx of so many asians on Canada's west coast, they will I am sure influence the local dishes in that many will be stir fried or steamed. Salads will probably be frequently served with the meals, as I hear that BC'ers are the most health concious of all Canadians.

Meals are not like in some Brazilian establishments where meat is brought around on skewers and served at the tables. Instead, you would pick a selection and probably get a decent size portion of meat, vegetables, potato or rice, with bread rolls on the side.

Islam Is A Dangerous Cult
Are you familliar with the what is typical in the u.s? if so then you have a good Idea of what is popular here in canada. There are very few dishes that are uniquely Canadian as such.there is so much variety now that really it's tough to define.Maybe if you look up some restaurants in toronto you might get a better idea if they have menus posted online.check out some grocery store flyers A&P,Independant Grocers,Safeway,Coscto. If you want recipes just google them.Good luck!

Poutine!
You gotta love that greese filled delicacy from Quebec.
If you're wondering what it is exactly, it's French Fries smothered with cheese and beef gravy!!!!

That's very hard to answer because Canada is such a large country, that different areas have their own specialities. And with a large immigrant population, many ethnic foods are eaten too.

In my own area, the Maritime Provinces, seafood is very popular because we get it fresh from the ocean. Lobsters, scallops, crabs, mussels, and many varieties of fish. Also, game like pheasants, ducks, moose and deer.

food in canada is varied because of immigration, but game is used frequently(deer, elk etc.) as well as local fish (trout, pickerel etc.) but it depends on what area of the country and where the population originated.

Gotta give it to April there. We do have a lot of commonplace foods like burgers etc., but our ethnic French-Canadian foods offer a rich uniqueness found noplace else - tourtiere and poutine are at the top. But let's not forget Maple Syrup, Atlantic and Pacific Salmons, Alberta Black Angus Beef, Bison meats, Venison, Wild Bear. The unique list is endless. I am proud to be Canadian!
