Vancouver is one of the largest cities in Canada if you include the greater metropolitain area. It is just over two million people.

As with any city that size, it will have its problem areas. There is a drug use problem on the east side of town, and there tend to be more homeless people there, perhaps because Vancouver's climate is much milder than most other Canadian cities in winter.

However, Vancouver has also been named one of the best cities to live in by several organizations, including reader's choice by a travel magazine, and surveys by the EIU and Mercer Human Resources.

With the Winter Olympics coming to Vancouver area in 2010, you can expect security to be increased, vacant lots to be cleaned up, and general improvements to the city. You also may find housing costs will go up, and that affects students who will be renting apartments or dorms, not just buyers of new homes.

A lot of the "misinformation" you may see here in Yahoo! Questions have been posted by the same group of people (possibly even one person) who immigrated to Vancouver and had a bad experience. Instead of focusing on the good and trying to improve things, they prefer to complain about their situation and spend a lot of time posting exaggerations and downright lies.

But you can be your own judge. Attached below are a variety of websites,

Vancouver is one of the top rated cities in the world to live in! This is a fact.

Vancity, as some of us call our home, is multicultural and very social. Sure minorities have their own parts of town like Chinatown, but we all get along fine. Chinatown welcomes everyone, even tourists.

FYI the Olympics are coming in 2010, and they don't pick trashy radical hosts.

Economically, we will be booming til the Olympics. There might be a housing crash after the 2010 Olympics, but unless your a real estate player, no need to worry, though it makes more sense to buy after the crash.

Also, LOL @ "and dear rude answerer whether top contributor or not please go to dicipline school coz we dont' welcome you.."

I was born and raised in Vancouver. We are no more trashy, radical, or antisocial than people born and raised anywhere else. People are just people. However, we native Vancouverites are statistically less likely to try to oversimply our world by making overgeneralizations about others--or to make overgeneralizations based on anecdotal evidence of unknown reliability.

Who have you been talking to?
Being born and raised in Vancouver, and i can tell you the people are anything but antisocial or radical.
Trashy?
We do have a problem with homeless people, but so does every other big city. That's the only thing I can think of that you could mean by trashy.

Vancouver is an awesome place to live. We have mountains, beaches, city, country all within an hour of each other.
The people are friendly, the standard of living is high.

:)
Nah, Vancouver is great :)
I love it here

Where on earth did you hear that?!?!

I have been told by many people who have lived there that Vancouver people are self-opinionated, uncivilised, rude and pushy with bad language.
The scenery is nice though.
Don't blame me. That's what I have been told by people from other countries who have lived there.
