What is there to do in Vancouver and Alaska?

I'm going on a seven day cruise to Alaska in August. The ship leaves out of Vancouver, so I will be in Vancouver for two days. I will be on land in Alaska for about 3 or 4 days. Can anyone give me suggestions on places to go and things to do?

My hubby and I spent 3 1/2 weeks in an apartment-hotel in Vancouver, Canada, this past september. We actually won the round-trip tickets from Delta Airlines and chose Canada as our destination. It was the best trip ever! If you do decide to go to Vancouver, (which you will not regret)... you have to see: Stanely Park, ride the bike around the sea wall (approx 4 miles) in Stanley Park, go on the whale-watching trip (3 to 4 hour trip), go to Grouse Mountain and walk on the Capilano Suspension Bridge, go to Lonsdale Quay, (you have to ride the ferry from Vancouver to LQ), (then take the bus to i.e. Grouse Mtn and Capilano Bridge); I suggest you stay by Stanley Park at the West End...it so much nicer there and a little more "upscale". There is so much to do and so much to see. The best thing we enjoyed was the fresh, clean air that you breathe when riding the ski lift at Grouse Mtn. That was the best, you can't find that here in the U.S.A! Again... I hope you choose Vancouver, Have fun!

We did a cruise a few years ago ... what we did on the land portion of the trip was: fly to watch bears (not polar - brown, black & Kodiak) feed on salmon, helo ride to see glaciers (while on glacier, ride a dog sled or hike), visit historical & cultural sites in each stop, my sister took her family fishing, & biking. Don't miss the glaciers calving.

Most cruises plan day trips. Check with your cruise about optional adventures while in port.

Alaska is incredibly beautiful. Enjoy

Most towns rely on tourists in summer. Google your cities on the itinery and look for an official visitors guide.

If you want to get a feel for Vancouver go to Granville Island public market and then take a small ferry (the aquabus--about $2.50) across False Creeek to the West End and walk the seawall around Stanley Park...a really beautiful walk--it's about 9 kilometers..but you can cut through the park at any point and take a trail through it and back to the city. Vancouver is a beautiful, vibrant city..Enjoy

I went to vancouver for two days then went on the 7 day alaska cruise ... i thought vancouver was a little boring but im a kid ....we went to granville island and then stanley park and they both were the highlights of vancouver...oh and we ate at the spaghetti factory, its popular there i guess.....and for alaska of course the boat is fun but the side trips were great....if you go to ketchikan shop all you can cause its big....skagway alaska is old fashioned and cute but not too much shopping, and dont go on the jeep adventure in skagway, it was horrible.....and juneau wasnt a big shopping place either but juneau we went on the helicopter ride to a glacier and it was awesome.....hope that helps and have fun too :)
