Bloor West Village is very nice - older houses and a safe neighborhood. I walked alone at night and felt quite safe.

Many people here said to avoid Jane and Finch and surroundig ares. Well i don't personally live in those areas but i do have a few friends that live there and they haven't been shot yet! Surprise Surprise!!! I Its not that bad there, i have walked down the street alone and nothing has happened to me. The rent in those areas are cheaper too and its not that dangerous. The only time you will be in any danger is if you do stupid things like drugs. Bad things happen everywhere in a big city. Although i don't live in those neighbourhoods i feel like defending it because i bet the ppl that wrote something about it has never even stepped foot in that neighbourhood. I live in Rosedale and i would have to say Jane and Finch is more welcoming. You have people that would say hi or pick someting up if drop it and are struggling to get it. In my neighbourhood it considered a "wealthy neighbourhood" but its not known for having welcoming people.

Don't go to Scarborough or Regent Park. A really nice area is between Broadview and Danforth and Jones and Danforth. There are 5 major apartment buildings at Broadview and Danforth but the prices range between $1000 and over including utilities. You can try renting on the Danforth but the apartments are usually not in tip top shape. the prices can range between about $700- $1100 plus utilities. It is cheaper east of Pape. If you've never been there before, I suggest you visit it especially on a summer evening (it's filled with night life).

Everybody here is right...Jane/Finch and surrounding areas is a place to avoid, as is Regent Park. Look for an apartment in a house in the High Park/Bloor West area of Toronto and you will love it and it is relatively safe.

depends on wat yourer looking for, but jane&finch, scarborough, and lawrence&the allen (just north of of lawrence and right around the allen, a small neighbourhood) are no good

Stay away from Scarborough, Jane and Finch (and nearby intersections like Jane/Wilson, Keele/Shepperd, etc), and North Etobicoke (Rexdale)... and don't even think about Brampton!

Jane and Finch is a dangerous neighborhood it has a nickname "the jungle" do not live there. Also Regent Park or anywhere near Regent park, Queen street East area, there are tons of hookers, drug users, and a ton of violence there. The past few years gun violence was on the rise, my Mother lives in Etobicoke near the lake, she was robbed at her work and there was also a shooting a few stores down from where she works, when I stayed at her house I would go outside around 5am and still see hookers walking around. Stay away from that area too.
Yonge and Eglinton is where I grew up and I loved it there, great schools, tons of shops, however the rent has gone up considerably past few years but there are still some great places to live possible a basment apartment.

Toronto is not safe

I lived in Toronto almost all my life. A few years ago, i left altogether. The main spot you want to stay far far away from are:
Bloor and Lansdowne
Queen and Lansdowne
Jane and Finch
and
Jane and Wilson
Regent park in Scarborough is also really bad.
