What part of canada is most like new zealand?

I am entertaining the idea of moving to canada in the mid-long term. But as canada is obviously a lot bigger than New Zealand where i currently live, i wanna learn more.

What part of Canada is most like new zealand? ie: mid sized cities - around 1mil population, near water, bush etc?

Just curious so i have somewhere to start looking..
Additional Details
ill add that im not looking for somehwere that is the same as nz, but that would be an easy transition

Either the east or west coasts would probably be closest. The west coast is more mountainous than the east. Greater Vancouver population is about 2.5 million. Victoria, on Vancouver Island (just off the coast of mainland BC) would probably suit you. Victoria's population is about 350,000. Vancouver Island is about 700,000.

British Columbia.

wahoo
I have been to N.Z a few years back and the one thing that reminded me of Canada was the Cook Mountains in the South Is. I would have to say that British Columbia would be your best bet for being the most like N.Z. BC has the coast, the big cities would be Victoria on Vancouver Is. or Vancouver city on the Mainland, they have the moderate winters and are very pretty much like N.Z was when I was there. Of course there is more area to choose from too...more mountains and ranch land..trees, etc etc...you really have to go there to see...it will be a well worthwhile trip..If B.C is not to our liking, well then Northern Ontario is all bush and trees, but much harder winters.

I have a friend who lives in Auckland, who has lived in various parts of Canada too... and there is nowhere in Canada that compares equally to NZ. You might find something similar in BC, but not in the lower mainland.

The comments from Zebra was uncalled for. For someone that doesn't live in Canada, and has not been to BC doesn't shehave a clue what she is talking about. BC is definately most like New Zealand.
Metro vancouver is probably bigger than what you are looking for. The capital city Victoria is nice but has a serious problem with homeless people. Since about half (2 million) of BC's population live in Vancouver finding another large city may be hard to find.
In Canada we have what they call multiculturelism.(i think i spelled that wrong) This has it advantages but also disadvantages. If you are looking for Kiwi culture you'll probably not find it here.

Halifax NS has some similarities to Auckland and Nova Scotia's size is roughly the same.

I'm an NZer that has lived in Canada & I would say there is no comparison. The cultures are world's apart & can be different in each city. Toronto was the most shallow & materialistic place I've ever been in my whole life & I hated it. All people ever talk about is ice hockey & material possessions & money. I would compare it to Sydney in looks, population & size, only a very quiet & dull version of Sydney. Their nightlife seemed to consist of sports bars with ice hockey on a screen. Even the famous Toronto Film Festival didn't compare to Auckland's! Montreal was fantastic & laid back, funky people, but you have to speak fluent French to be able to work there (by law). Quebec City I love also, really pretty, especially lit up at night, great old buildings, etc. Ottawa was ugly & boring. Calgary is like a Canadian version of Texas. All over Canada is scenic & you don't have to travel far to get to nature. But they do have bears, etc so a bit different than nature here in NZ. A tip for you to see wildlife is to drive to a dump somewhere on the outskirts of a city or in the countryside (you know a refuse centre where all the rubbish goes) & from the safety of your car watch the bears rumaging through the garbage! Saw a raccoon at a holiday lake area north of Toronto too & that was great. I love seeing animals in the wild.

Personally I couldn't live there, it's true what they say about Canadian's being boring. They even had a newspaper do a survey when I was there & Canadian's themselves agreed they were boring people & a boring nation! That's how bad it is. I would also describe them as spoilt. All I remember of my backpacking trips around Europe were spoilt Canadian women complaining about the $20 per night youth hostels not having this & that & the other, like we're staying in a 5 star hotel or something. And that's my experience of Canadian women anywhere, including my own relatives from Toronto & a past partner's Canadian relatives from Calgary - spoilt materialistic Princesses.
