for your situation: the larger cities are: Montreal, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver. (There are also cities like Quebec, Ottawa, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Victoria, Halifax etc, which would be quite small if you are coming from New York)
The only large cities that are close to New York are Montreal and Toronto. Montreal would be hard becuase of the french, although nearly everyone is bilingual and there is a lot of English there. However, it might be tough to get a job if you aren't bilingual. Toronto (Ontario) has a ban on Pitt-bulls.
I would then suggest Halifax maybe? Although it is WAY smaller than you would be used to (a population of rughly 410,000). But it the closest city close to New York that allowe pit-bulls and is not french.

Good Luck!
P.S I'm not racist, nor is anyone I know! I have many Asian and african american friends here in Vancouver! |

"Hi"....well I'd say your hooped in that your profile says you are only 17 ( with a baby on the way ) and just in case your question was hypothetical you're hooped again because any major Canadian city close to New York would be cold in the winter.
You're also hooped on the pit bulls and the age, you can't even work here without a work permit, can't lease an apartment or whatever and your chances of finding a benevolent landlord that would rent to you with your pit bulls is rather dim to say the least !
I've read a few of your answer's regarding Canada, nice of you to speak up for us, and I'd say you have asked a question of which you already know the answer. *S*
Presuming you started school at 6 yrs. old then you would currently be in Grade 10 or 11...really not enough education to qualify for a job that would allow you to live in a large city now is it ?
Still it's a Saturday night and "Answer's is fun, isn't it?
If you are really interested in eventually moving to Canada then give yourself some real qualifications , finish school and either get a Trade or some College and then when you are of legal age ,apply to immigrate ....we'd "Welcome" you...don't let it be a fantasy, make it a goal. *S*
Hope that helps you young Sir ! *S*
**************************************...
EDIT... to ....MSS...... I would appreciate if you wouldn't slander Canada.
What else do you want, your parents were "Welcomed" here, you were born here and are able to attend a fine University and yet you rely on "biased " U tube vids.
You Sir have a rather bad attitude for a Canadian. |

you only need French in Quebec.
pitbulls are banned in most Ontario cities, I believe, especially Toronto
cold.. hmm there's Vancouver, though its still very cold.
Looks like Toronto is your best bet, lots of high paying jobs, close to NY, largest city in Canada, and no French. |

WEll, as you have Pitts, you can cross off Ontario from your list immediately, although ideally it would be closest and most convenient. As for a job....hmmm.... you are only 18...I assume you have not finished college/university, so I am not sure as to the quality of job you will get with only high school education. You do not state what your background is, whether or not you have a trade, or training certificates. One does not need to speak French to live in Montreal, they speak English there as well, and you would learn it form living there. I would try in Alberta, as there are many resorts to find employment at. But that puts you far from home.
MSS: I am a visable minority, as are my children, borna and raised here. NEVER had a problem. I held a very high level job, for a long time until I chose to leave it. My children are accepted at school, the community and extra curricular activities. My oldest is at the top of his class. Perhaps you are having a hard time due to your poor attitude, no? |

If you want pit bulls, Ontario is out of the question. If you don't speak French, forget Quebec. Then you want to stay close to New York and want a large city - the only option seems to be Halifax, Nova Scotia (population of about 350,000). Lots of snow, but not too cold. |

lmao, you're not going to find anywhere that doesn't hit -20 in the winter, sorry. |

You may not find good paying jobs because Canada is looking for highly educated slaves. I mean we welcomes Ph.D engineers to work as cleaning stuff or doctors to work as taxi drivers. This is because we ARE racist. Since most educated immigrants are NOT white, we don't give a carp. Thanks to our policies of modern day to hide the fact that we are racist, we just apply the same law we apply to brown educated immigrants to the whites we well.
Canada is a fake land of hope. Canada is a fake multicultural country. Make sure that you know the dark side of Canada and then make an informed decision.
Note: If you come here with kids and your skin colour is dark, don't let white teachers who try to create more jobs for members of teachers' association, place you children in ESL classes. ESL is set up for segregation. I am a victim of this.... I am currently in bio medical engineering school at University of Calgary.

Update:
To those who say that I have a bad attitude, I am a bio medical student (gynaecology) at University of Calgary. Even inside U of C I can see racism at full force. Face the fact. During winter I get more looks from everyone around the college, when I cover my face with clothing and run to catch the C-Train at night. But when a white guys run at night, no once seems to be worry about that! hum... I wonder why? How about high level jobs held by ethic people who oppose war? Since I am against Afghanistan war because it killed more that it helped, everyone call me a terrorist! I am a Buddhist and ALL my life Canadians keep calling me, "gay Buddhists", "dumb Buddhists", look at his family... they are so stupid. I quite a job at a bio medical engineering company because a of pressure from my co-workers.
Most of you who say that they don't face discrimination, it is because you a visible CHRISTIAN minority. You can't even dream of living with a anti-creationist religious views with a brown skin... CAN YOU????
ajidamoon*~ Incroyant! Are you a Christian? I guess YES! :)
Hum... after all, multiculturalism is NOT multi-religious either! But if you are a white atheist, then you will be OK.
Oh.. at the end... my GPA still 3.91 |
