Public and Catholic school boards teach everyone french from at least grade 4 to grade 9, so most people know some french, and whenever you buy anything the writ ting on the package is in both languages.
French is only really used as a first language in Quebec, Ottawa in parts of New Brunswick and most francophones know english as well. So if you're going at ask a question online it would make more sense to write it in the language that most of the answers would understand, hence they probably use english.
Comprendez-vous? <--I think tthat'sright... |

Canada has two official languages - English and French. Most anglophone Canadians speak some French, because they usually either study it for a couple of years in school, or have gone to French immersion schools (meaning all of their classes are in French.) All government documents are in both languages.
The reason questions are asked in English on this site, is because it is an English language site. There is a French language site, and you will find comments and questions from French-speaking Canadians on that site. |

Yes, but mostly in Quebec, the rest of Canada is pretty much purely English. And even in Quebec, you can still get away with not speaking French, at least in the big cities, and even rural areas (I live in Montreal). |

Holy Crap! What a big lot of ridiculous answers you have gotten! I really don't understand why people bother to answer a question when they have no clue as to the answer. |

They speak French and English in areas of Canada that were colonized by the French. I feel sort of idiotic, but truthfully I don't know the geography of Canada that well. As a French student, I can tell you that they speak both in Quebec, and probably parts of Nova Scotia. After the American Revolution, many loyalists moved to Canada - hence the English influence. |

yes, some people in canada speak french
what role? Spoilers to everything - it's really a mess and should alert the United States of America what happens when a second language is taped as an official language for a country. |

I think you would find French Canadians would speak predominantly in French.
Of course you are aware of the history of Canada, and the struggles between France and England prior to the emergence of the United States. |
