Usually, it's something from where you're from, so something "Saskatchewanie" like you said would be great.
I'm sure they'll love it.
Enjoy your stay here! |

I'm from Saskatchewan originally, also moving to Quebec City soon.
I think something like a jar of Saskatoon berry jam would be cool. |

Some useful household item or decorative would be fine for any host. Not too expensive as it is the thought that counts. |

I don't know exactly what you could get them, but you should follow these guidelines:
1)Don't just buy for 1 member of the family, like a necklace only for the mother. Buy them something they could all use.
2)Buy something they maybe wouldn't normally find in Quebec. Like, for example, my cousin went to France as foreign exchange last year, and he brought his host family Canadian maple syrup, because they'd never had it before.
3)Buy them something to remind them of you. If you're artsy, buy them something along that line. If you're sporty, something to do with a sport they don't know much about, or their fave sport.
4)Be original. Don't just copy whatever your friends are getting, and don't buy the same thing in a different colour or pattern. People notice, especially if they look at it at the airport and another family is getting the same thing. It happened to my cousins friends, and the families definitely noticed, because their kids were friends.
Hope that helps, I'll ask around and see if anyone in my family, or my friends have any good ideas. I'm from BC, and I've never been to Saskatchewan, so I don't really now what you could get. |
