old lady
The word is Canuck, and it's a friendly designator for a Canadian, just as Yank is a designator for an American.
It goes back to the first World War, when Johnny Canuck was a figure in political cartoons.

poppawick
It's a person that lives in Canada, like Aussies for Australia or Kiiw's for New Zealanders or Yanks for Americans

A proud member of Vancouver's hockey team, part of the National Hockey League in North America. The Vancouver Canucks are the best! One day we'll get the Cup.

Canadians do not normally go around calling each other fellow Canucks.

Cheers,

Petra M, Vancouver

It's not necessarily a French canadian.
The term came from The Crazy Canucks a group of Canadian alpine ski racers who rose to prominence in the World Cup during the 1970s and 80's. Dave Irwin, Dave Murray, Steve Podborski and Ken Read burst onto the scene of a European-dominated sport and quickly earned themselves a reputation for fast and seemingly reckless skiing - and also for winning.
