Autumn is in the fall. It falls in different parts of canada depending upon climate, if your question is regarding the fall leaves. Labour Day often is thought of as the beginning of fall, as School starts the next day. Otherwise it can be best summed up below from Wiki. (adapted)
Autumn (also known as fall in North American English) is one of the four temperate seasons, the transition from summer into winter. In the temperate zones, autumn is the season during which most crops are harvested, and deciduous trees lose their leaves. It is also the season where days rapidly get shorter and cooler, and of gradually increasing precipitation in some parts of the world.
Astronomically, it begins with the autumnal equinox (around September 23 in the Northern hemisphere, and March 21 in the southern hemisphere), and ends with the winter solstice (around December 21 in the Northern hemisphere and June 21 in the Southern hemisphere). However, meteorologists count the entire months of March, April and May in the Southern hemisphere, and September, October and November in the Northern hemisphere as autumn. An exception to these definitions is found in the Irish Calendar which still follows the Celtic cycle, where Autumn is counted as the whole months of August, September and October.
Although the days begin to shorten after the summer solstice, it is usually in September (Northern Hemisphere) or March (Southern Hemisphere) when twilight becomes noticeably shorter and more the change more abrupt in comparison with the more lingering ones of summer.
Autumn is often defined as the start of the school year, since they usually begin in early September or early March). Either definition, as with those of the seasons generally, is somewhat flawed because it assumes that the seasons are all of the same length, and begin and end at the same time throughout the temperate zone of each hemisphere. |

September 23rd is the official first day of fall, and December 21 is the end of fall and the official beginning of winter. However, where I live it is already fall and our leaves are starting to change, the temperature has started to drop and it has been going down to about 9 to 10C every night and we are supposed to have our first frost this week we usually get our first snowfall in November and sometimes October ... Keep in mind this is Northern Ontario I am speaking of.... farther south fall comes a little later climate wise (its the same date for start and end). Here were are usually about 2 weeks ahead of Southern Ontario when it comes fall and winter and we are about 2 weeks behind when it comes to spring... |
