It all depends on the city.

Toronto: $80 000/yr isn't much, average apartment/house, car, etc...

Charlottetown: $80 000/yr can get you a nice big house, fancy car, etc...

Karen L
What they wear, drive, and do for fun is going to depend as much on the person as on their salary. Somebody single and 24 years old is probably going to do different things with the money than someone 44, married with 3 children. $80,000 a year is pretty good money, and the average person will have enough money to buy all the necessities and then some unless they're the sole support of the spouse and 3 children in a large city, in which case they may struggle from time to time and have to watch pennies a bit, but they aren't going to be broke. Not luxury, but definitely a comfortable life.

Kath
$80, 000 CAD a year is a high salary by today's standards. Upper percentile of the population. They probably own a 4 bedroom house, a cottage, and travel a lot. I don't think they go over-board in their dress. Maybe a suite if he or she works in an office.

The answer to this question would depend on your age, marital status and especially where you live (house prices)...80 thousand will not give a family a luxurious lifestyle if you have a family. You will only qualify for a mortgage of 260,000 with a down payment in Ontario...could be less now depending on the market. Living alone, you could do well, but as I said, it depends on your location in Canada, as the housing market varies so much.

I've made 6 figures+ for the last two years and due to ignorance and backtaxes I am in horrible shape as a result. It Absolutely depends on You. You should easily qualify for a 300K mortgage, a new BMW, and designer clothes while you hit the town a few times a month. This is assuming you have no other serious (5 figure) debts, no expensive vice, and if spouse/ children are involved you have a lot more expenses/ tax credits to figure from and I don't know anything about those. In all it's a good job and that is a good income, wish I'd considered something like that much earlier in life. I wear, what I want. I live in a nice overpriced rented condo. I drive, out of 3 whichever I feel like driving that day of the paid in full $5K toys, and for fun shopping for whatever, casinos, stocks, many others I know in that income bracket are always looking for new investment opportunities so definitely you should have extra cash at the end of the month.

It depends on what you want out of life. Me and my wife make about 130k combined and we sure don't have a cottage or a four bedroom house. We have a very nice three bedroom home and a nice car. We are able to save for retirement, and take a very nice vacation every year. We don't live in a large city where the cost of living is high. If we lived in Toronto or Vancouver we couldn't afford half of what we have now.

You'd qualify for roughly $340,000 mortgage so depending on where you want to live it's kind of average.

An annual salary of $80K in Canada is an above average salary. Most Canadian families considered "middle-class" are in the $60K-$75K range.

With that salary, you could afford a nice car, some designer clothes, buy a house or condo (with a mortgage), and go out for dinner or see a movie on a regular basis.

Of course, it all depends on what type of person you are.

A thrifty person would drive a Ford Focus or take public transit, buy their clothes at Zellers or Winners, cook nutritious inexpensive meals at home, and live well within their means so they could save up for retirement.

A person "living for today" would buy the BMW, wear nothing but Tommy Hilfiger, go out every week and have no nest egg saved up in case they lose their job or have to take time off work due to an illness in the family.

Everyone makes choices in life. Choosing the harmony between the two extremes is what you need to figure out.

Cheekz
a very good lifestyle

What their lifestyle is depends on who they are, not how much they earn. What they are wearing, driving, doing for fun are all individual decisions. However, you could be comfortable on that salary.

they live in really big igloos and have nice dog sleds and they hunt and ice fish for seal blubber..

hehe that's a very rash conclusion, it's the significant other's salary, lol. You don't think females are equals to men?

Don't underestimate women, they are better than me and all the rest of men. It's because of this that they don't have to prove it all the time like men do. But I am a male feminist, that doesn't mean I'm gay, I'm a straight male feminist hopeless romantic.

dont taze me bro
A very good lifestyle. Thats alot of money.
