All kinds of music "country to rock - blues - heavy metal etc"

Canadian radio stations are heavily influenced by the music from USA and UK. However, they also must obey the Canadian Radio and Television Comission (CRTC) regulations for ensuring Canadian content.

That means that if a radio station wants to play nothing but country music all day, they would have to be sure to include Canadian country music artists in the lineup so they conform to CRTC standards.

I am more of a classic rock enthusiast, so I would most likely hear bands like this on my radio station:

- Creedence Clearwater Revival
- Neil Young (*)
- Dire Straits
- Led Zeppelin
- Pink Floyd
- Guess Who (*)
- Rush (*)

The ones I put stars (*) on are actually Canadian, and qualify for CRTC Canadian content rules.

But we listen to anything that is good, pretty much. Here are a couple of Montreal stations in case you want to see how we compare to yours.

What type of music do Amercians listen to? Do y'all get together and vote once a year on what you are going to listen to - ALL of you listen to the same music?

Canada is even bigger than the USA which means the population is even more diverse, and yes we do have young people, old people, middle aged people - some people that like music from Sesame Street even (because some Cdns are VERY young)..

As for me personally, I like everything except ghetto rap -

i am not Canadian but I think like all people all over the westernised world, I am sure they hear what is popular which includes Canadian, American, British and Australian music.

But unlike on answerer who says Canadians do not listen to canuck music well that is just her opinion.

I am sure that are Canadian musicians whom are not internationally recognised but whom Canadians listen to.

Mostly music is personal it is what you like and not always American.

This question is too generalised for something like music which depends on one's personal taste

hahah to some of the non-canadian answers-Just b/c we're Canadian doesn't necessarily mean we listen to Canucks.

I don't like the Canadian singers aside from Nickelback and I don't restrict my music to just one flavour. I listen to anything in the top 40 worldwide.

We're really influenced by what the Americans listen to (unfortunately or not). However we do like our own singers and bands, some more well known than others. However I find the style of these bands and singers, to the common person who doesn't know all the details of music, to be quite similar to Americans. Every type of music goes pretty much in Canada. We all seem to hear a lot of British bands/ singers.

The same music, Americans and the whole world listen too
