If nothing else, DO take Via Rail Rocky Mountaineer ... you will be awed by the grandeur and beauty!
Vancouver is a beautiful city, and you will want to see Vancouver Island, too, Nanaimo and Victoria especially.

Toronto would be one place to consider as well as Niagara Falls.

Don't forget Newfoundland! It's gorgeous there! And it's a little out of the way, but the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton (Nova Scotia) is absolutely breathtaking. I'm not sure where you're from, but travelling across Canada would take about 2 weeks unless you travel by air. Via rail would be an excellent way to view the country, but it limits you if you want to see certain attractions especially in the East. Unless you can get a travel package where the company offers excursions, it might be a boring trip. http://www.train-canada.net/

Hello the Rokies would be an amazing place to visit. If you are in Vancouver, take the time to hick through Victoria. It is very very beautiful, people are very open and nice and the beaches and hikes are amazing. If you have a chance to go to Quebec, then do not miss going to Quebec city. There is a lot of festivals and people are very friendly and enjoy good food.
Let me think further.. I f you are driving, then do not miss driving through the prairies.. It is a very very long road but the landscape is very unusual and it feels like you are driving through the desert in the states.. Have done it so enjoy your trip..

Best to drive as the buses are not the greatest and they take a long time to go from one place to the next or you can travel via share care.. check google and see if you can find a link regarding car share.. you meet interesting people and it is a cheap and safe way to travel or buy a car for you trip.. Hope that is helpful.

Well i have just returned to Australia after spending 10 weeks in canada....For ease i mostly travelled by air,west-jet/can-jet the cheapest and good airlines.It depends on your time schedule...if you have the time then for sure choose a train for journeys or perhaps part of your trip.I did travel via train from montreal to ottowa for the day...11/2-2 hrs each way.I suggest New foundland,Montreal,Quebec city,Niagara falls,Banff,Vancouver...Toronto is great for shopping but not only i do not approve of much else here =o.................make sure u check out grouse mountain and the suspension bridge,whoa,spectacular but i'm sure there is much much more beauty in Canada......i loved it and besides customs keeping me for 9 hrs before finally letting me in and also hassling me when i left/......I WILL BE BACK,lol!

Mostirable? That's a new one! however. You want five or six destinations to visit in Canada?
Halifax, in Nova Scotia, is great fun to visit. The Bluenose is there, and the old forts are fun to see in the summer, when they are staffed by employees in period costume.
Montreal, of course, or Quebec if you speak a little French. Both are fascinating cities.
Ottawa, our country's capital, is a must on the tourist agenda.
Toronto, Canada's largest city, offers much for the tourist to see and do.
Winnipeg is the site of the old fur trading forts, and The Forks is built to replicate that era.
Regina is an interesting city. Small, but unique.
Edmonton is the capital of Alberta and is a nice place to visit, but for pure fun, try to be in Calgary, Alberta, for the annual Calgary Rodeo. Banff, Alberta, is in the Rocky Mountains and is a beautiful place to visit. The ice fields are nearby and you can tour them on a skidoo-train.
In BC, Vancouver is a must-see, and Victoria, the provincial capital, is a quaint replica of an English city. Vey pleasant.
The mode of travel really depends on how long your vacation is. It takes a good six days of steady driving to cross the country -- that's without any sight seeing -- but it is handy to have a car when you are touring. So if you have three weeks or more, driving across the country makes sense. Train isn't too practical, because the train schedules don't allow for quick changes. Going by plane is great, because it's only a couple of hours from one stop to the next, and you can rent a car once you get to the airport.
When you plan your vacation, try to make it in the summer or the fall. Winter travel can be difficult, especially as the climate varies so markedly across the country. In February, the daffodils are blooming in Victoria, but the prairies (Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba) can be under several feet of snow.

i would either go by train or bus. its slower but you will get to see more. bus will prob be a lot cheaper tho. i would go to labradore in newfoundland, montreal, ottawa, calgary, edmonton, and victoria BC

Starting out in Halifax, I would rent a car or RV , drive 2 1/2 hours to Prince Edward Island, spend a couple days, then head for Quebec City, followed by Montreal and Ottawa.I would then fly to Winnepeg, Manitoba, drive the Yellowhead Highway to Edmonton, hop a Via Rail there heading for Vancouver. In Vancouver, I would rent a car, go over to Victoria. Canada is 3500 miles wide so if you plan on driving all the way, it is a long haul.
