Hello

What would be the best way to transport a dog from the UK to Canada?

Hey, I'm hoping to go to live in Canada and I want to take my corgi with me. Any advice would be very much appreciated, thanks! x

You need to use a pet transport service. Before you leave you need to pay for a vet check and he may have to be in quarantine for a while on arrival. You can organize it yourself but I recommend a service. They make sure you dog has water in a block of ice so as not to spill, there is also a time limit the pet can be traveling for. It is around 12 hrs. It's very costly but worth it!

Most major airlines are able to fly animals. Your vet can advise you if the dog may or may not need some mild sedation but speak with the airlines about how they do it and what needs to be done to ship the dog. In most cases the animal can fly on the same flight that you travel on.

A number of years ago I was assigned to a job in India and had to take my family with me. We also took our dog with us and she flew through Amsterdam which has a "pet hotel" in the airport. She got better care then we did. lol

Call your airlines though. They can advise you better.

I think flying him over is just about the only way.

well call the airline you will use, and your closest Canadian Embassy/ Consulate, and then get the necessary veterinary shots. Also, if moving to canada and if you are deciding on renting a home/apartment, make sure that you are moving to an animal friendly city where renting in a place that allows pets is so important. I live in Victoria and it was nearly impossible to rent an apartment within a reasonable price that allowed pets (2 cats) and renting with a dog is next to impossible but you can, just so you know.

The best way to do it is either put in a box and ship it on an airplane or you can learn a lesson from drug traffickers and do it the way they do

Rocky
Yeah, teleporter. Well, if it's tech of today, plane, obviously. Don't go for boat. If you fly with your dog, maybe use some Doggy Sedate, or something so the pooch sleeps the whole way.

all passenger planes have animal crates in the hold , get a vet to sedate him for the journey so he wont find the long journey stress full, make sure he has a good drink before boarding to keep him hydrated don't feed him too much to stop air sickness , give him a good feed an hour after landing.

Mike187um
i think the airplane would be safest and easiest way,my sister had a puppy in alberta, and when she came down to newfoundland with us, she gotten the dog on the airplane.

put it a garbge bag and toss it to the ocean and it will get to canda or uk what ever way ur going

Have him swim. You do realize there's an ocean between, don't you? So it's airplane or cruiseliner.

The best way would be to fly it but it has to stay in quarentine for 6 monthd, very hard on the dog. Can it not live with someone else?

just me :)

by an airplane, preferably the one that is taking you to canada, in a crate, but make sure the crate is shaped like this<=> more elongated though, other wise other stuff can block the air holes
