What would you do if you were me? |
Ok, it has been my dream since 2005 to go to B.C.
I don't know why - nice weather - I know a few people that moved out there.
But mostly: 1. Career & 2. I have nothing here in Winnipeg Manitoba.
I have no job here
I have no family here
I have no friends here
I have looked for a good career job since 2003 - have come up empty and have left some jobs due to a variety of career reasons.
If you were me - what would you do? Move out west?
I don't want to go the the Martimes, or anywhere East. Dont' want Alberta at all. I just want to stay in Canada.
My heart is longing for B.C. for some strange reason. This inner voice keeps saying B.C.
Ok, but where in B.C. for a young person like me?
Thanks,
Jen |

It depends what you are looking for. If you want to live in any of the so ta speak 'prime' areas of Vancouver you will need to have $$$.
An amazing area of Vancouver is called Kitsilano. It's absolutely stunning over the spring & summer. It's right near the water (beach), plenty of restaurants, unique independant clothing stores, grocery stores, coffee shops, etc and is SO close to downtown Vancouver without being right DT Vancouver. Lot's of younger people live in this area as well.
Other recommended areas would be:
Yaletown (SUPER $$$$$$$)
Coal Harbour
or
The West End |

Try searching the web for jobs in BC. It will make transition easier if there is a job waiting for you. You can make friends anywhere you are. If you can't find a job there, then you just wasted money you can't afford. |

Definitely Vancouver! |

Vancouver has the most jobs, but it is also Canada's second most expensive place to live in. |

Vancouver is an excellent place to be able to meet friends and to look for different career opportunities. It is a really competitive area for looking for employment though, but if you have the correct qualifications and something like a degree or something then you can really blow them out of the water. The weather can be very nice, and then it can be bad as well. BC is filled with various nooks and crannies and has a vast amount of wilderness within the various towns strategically placed around. If your heart is saying to come out to Vancouver, you should come out to Vancouver. |

Yeah it's cheaper to move to the suburbs of Vancouver. Or if you really don't want to live in a busy town try The fraser valley(that's wear i live). It's a lot cheaper but the only problem is that you will most likely need a car (transit around here sucks). |

My boyfriend grew up in Winnepeg and moved to Vancouver in his early twenties. he's never looked back.
I am a third generation Vancouverite.. my grandparents were raised here! Ive traveled alot, but cant imagine living anywhere else.
I would suggest starting off in Vancouver, or a nearby municipality like Burnaby. After youve been here a while, you may decide you would prefer Vancouver Island, or another part of the province, but living in the city will help you get a job and get established faster... Just do it! |
