They have many similarities and many differences. Both provinces are very welcoming to newcomers and try to make people feel at home. The Newfoundland economy, especially in the St. John's area, is booming right now because of the offshore oil industry. Cost of living is somewhat cheaper in Newfoundland in some ways, but the cost of housing is going up in leaps and bounds. Newfoundland is probably culturally more distinctive than Nova Scotia. However, from Newfoundland you have to take a ferry for several hours or fly to go anywhere else, whereas from Nova Scotia you can easily drive to the rest of Canada or to the US. Air fare to and from NL is expensive. Quality of life is great in both provinces. Salaries are a bit lower in Newfoundland than in Nova Scotia. Employment opportunites are somewhat limited in both. Here is the link to the Service Canada job bank, which might give you an idea of what's available. |

If you want to see whales, icebergs, drink local wine, pick blueberries, go trout fishing, see moose, get "screeched-in" at a party, be at the furthest point East in North America....then go to Nfld. |

Apples and oranges: they are quite distinct and marvelously individualistic.
(Anne of Green Gables is from Prince Edward Island, although Lucy Maud Montgomery spent some time in Halifax.) |

Ann of Green Gables is PEI not nova Scotia.
I've lived in both provinces, and while they are similar for some things they are com[pletely different for others.
Newfoundlanders are very hospitable, they welcome all and you'll always get a smile, the landscape is beautiful and I love everything about it.
I do enjoy the landscape in nova scotia, but i'm not sure about how hospitable the people are, they aren't rude, but after you've met newfoundlanders it's pretty hard to top.
Also newfoundlanders are great at partying! |

it all depends, Halifax is more cosmopolitan than St. John's but in the rural areas its all what you are looking for. Nova Scotia has less snowfall and warmer temperatures. They are quite a bit different it would take a longer time to adjust to the culture in NL than in NS |
