specifically, regarding a musical career - you'll find a lot of people have to LEAVE here to make it, like the "Bad Day" guy - Daniel Powter, or Michael Buble - of course, ther are lots of well known exceptions (Sarah Mclachlan, Nickleback, Front Line Assembly, New Pornographers, and on and on).. but truth be told, Vancouver is fairly isolated by a lot of miles from the rest of Canada, so you are stuck playing in a small "pond" as it were - and travelling to the states to gig as a musician is both expensive and the immigration laws are quite prohibitive.. Lots of musicians leave here for either Toronto or LA..

just so you know.

otherwise - its a terrifically inspiring city, cosmopolitan, nature nearby, lots of nitty gritty urban pathos (possibly the most degenerate and poverty stricken drug addict ghetto in North America).. if you come here, don't become another drugged out wanna be musician - stay away from heroin! (and crack and speed)..

There is a lot of moose walking the streets, mounties in red uniforms, bears drinking beer, hockey holligans, people speaking french, and maple trees on every street corner. aye.

Vancouver is a great city. However, it is developing and changing at a rapid pace. Due to the housing demand, house prices and rents have shot through the roof.

It's an amazing urban environment, but be prepared to pay for the pleasure.

Yay, What a nice question to see. I live in Delta, Vancouver. And I'd say just about everything the people above me said. No I'm not taking any credit. Vancouver is a beautiful city. I wouldn't want to move from here, I love it. And Good luck with your career...

party party party!!! I went there on vacation and also when I worked on a ship we went there all the time. Stay in the north part of Vancouver. Cleaner and you will most likely have more success there.

Vancouver is beautiful - there are cool bands there too! The music scene is hip, the people are hip - it's just a hip place! Good luck! :-) It's a condensed, Canadian version of Seattle.
