Canada is a BIG country
Of course Greyhound or Amtrack are both inexpensive ways to go.. you may want to look into WestJet - which is a discount Cdn airline.. they've currently got oneway flights from Ft Lauderdale to Toronto for $121 CAD (that's damn cheap!)
bear in mind though, if you travel by air you WILL need a passport to return into the US (not by car though) |

You should try some different travel websites, like travelocity.com and orbitz.com. AirCanada's flights are usually pretty cheap, so maybe you could check out their website- www.aircanada.com. If time is constraints aren't an issue for you, then you could try a bus, like Greyhound, greyhound.com or Amtrak. For Amtrak, I think it really depends where in Canada you are trying to go.
Good luck with your travels! |

Flying, even on a low-cost airline like WestJet, will likely be cost-prohibitive due to high taxes on international airfares. You're probably better off to fly to Buffalo or Detroit, then take a bus from there.
I tried Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and Halifax, and cheapest roundtrip departing next 30 days is $229. To Detroit, it's only $117 roundtrip (Northwest and Spirit Air). You could practically walk to Canada from Detroit; Toronto is about 3 hours by bus. |

You could walk but it would take a long time. You could ride a bike. You need to know that if you are going to Canada you have to have a passport now. |

If you have a car or access to one without having to rent it, then driving would be the cheapest. Otherwise taking a bus is quite a bit less expensive than flying. Of course you could hitch hike, but that is so dangerous that I wouldn't advise it. |

Cheapest way is Greyhound Bus, but is very uncomfortable, and you may get stuck with long layovers, is time a factor if so go for AmTrak is the second cheapest |

If you want to fly cheap, try flying into Buffalo or Burlington. Canada is about 20 minutes away from those cities. Toronto is like an hour and a half from Buffalo and Montreal is only about an hour from Burlington and ottawa is only another hour and a half or so from there. |
