When going to u.s and canada?

does customs from both sides perform background checks on both driver and passenger, and also check to see if the passenger's license is valid, even if the birth certificate is valid? Sorry i keep asking these questions, i haven't found the right answer yet. My situatation is: I am going to canada tonight to windsort to the casino. I am dating a guy who is taking me there. 3 years ago i was got a possession of a controlled substance charge. and now i still have a suspended license from it. Is custom's going to find this out , or will i pass right through? What i am worried about is if they do know, i don't want them to say anything in front of the other guy.

They are aware of your criminal record. If you lie to them they will know and stop you and send you home anyway. So when you are asked if you ever had a criminal record answer the truth or face jail time for lying and possibly and even bigger mess. However the choice is obviously yours.

They check every single occupant , whats in your vehicle.what you had for breakfast, everything,if you are stopped. So obviously by the nature of your question,go through squeaky clean.I have never made it over the border the right way. There are alternatives.Good luck P.S criminal charges if you are stopped will get you turned back. The worst way to travel is by plane ,train or bus.

yooperpooper
i assume you are talking about driving and no only the one you're going into checks each way.

I don't think you will have anything to worry about. All customs is going to be doing is 1 - Verifying that you are a legal US Citizen and 2 - that your not bringing anything back that your shouldn't be. They really aren't going to be concerned if your license is suspended as long as you have a valid ID you should be ok.

The regulations keep changing on who does and doesn't get searched or questioned, or background checks done. To save yourself from embarassment, call the US customs and immigration and ask if they check for that. Then call Canadian customs and ask the same thing (because you'll go through a check going into the States, and coming back into Canada).
If you aren't driving, (that is, if your friend is driving and you are just a passenger) chances are you won't be checked, but depending on how high their state of alert is, you never know.
Good luck.

I live in Windsor; they will check your Ids both license and birth certificates (don't matter if expired; mine is); if he has a record he is not allowed to cross. If he gets caught they will impound the car. If you do make it across good luck at winning and crossing back home! Don't offer any info about his probation.

If you have a drug charge on your record you're not allowed to cross the border. The only thing you can do is try and hope they don't ask for your ID and scan it.

If you're taking the bridge, they're unlikely to look up from their magazine. If you're not driving, you don't need a valid drivers license - just birth certificate and picture ID.

strawbrrybabe
I don't think that you are going to Canada tonight. Good luck. Have a back-up plan.

if you tell them this, they won't let you cross the border. if you tell them nothing, you will get in. they don't really check anyway. it's your call. i often cross the us canadian border near seattle.

If they ask for ID coming into Canada, you are going home. If they ask returning to the US, who knows where you will spend the rest of your life. Sorry, but I thinkg Strwbrry hit it right
