The May 2-4 holiday (aka Victoria Day) in Canada is always observed on Monday the 24th, or the Monday right before the 24th. In 2007, the holiday lands on the 22nd. It's always the second last Monday in May. It is also always the week before the U.S. holiday, Memorial Day, which is always observed on the last Monday in May.
Even though May 24th was Queen Victoria's birthday, it's called May 2-4 because a "two-four" is a slang term for a case of beer with 24 bottles or cans in it. Since this holiday is typically seen as the start of the summer party season, where people do things such as camp out, barbeque, and drink beer, it has become known by some as the May 2-4 |
