When will Canada become a country like the other bigboys??

You question is badly phrased. Canada is already a country. If you mean when will it become a major global player, that moment has already passed. At the end of WW2 Canada had one of the five largest armed forces in the world (hard to believe now) and was widely respected and influential. This is no longer the case - the 'soft power' doctrine of our last Liberal government pulls no weight post-9/11 and it will take a lot of time and effort to rebuild Canada's once great position in the world. Let's be honest, it doesn't really belong in the G7 and while no other nation boasts as much about its UN peackeeping, lots of other nations actually do more of it. I would like to see it play its proper role again in world affairs.

Where have you been the last 140 years? Canada's been a country since 1867, just so you know.

And about us being one of the "big boys", well let's start by pointing out that Canada's the world's second largest country, so I think that's pretty big (bigger than the US, by the way. You probably don't know that Russia is the biggest) Secondly, we're not interested in being the USA's little lap dog, so if that means we're not one of the "big boys", than hurray for us, it means we're smart and capable of individual thought.

Canada is a country and one of the world's wealthiest nations. Canada is the US's largest trading partner and the second largest country in the world. Bigboys? Well if you mean big population, then, no, Canada is not big by having only 32 or 33 million. It will have to grow through increased immigration. If you mean big militarily, then, no again, Canada has been a peace-keeping nation and not a war-mongerer. Recently this has changed and now Canada is at war with her allies in Afghanistan. Moving from a peacekeeping-based military to a conflict-based one will take time and money. Canada should be commended for her peacekeeping efforts all over the world. On the other hand, she seems to have fallen under the spell of the big, dumb bully to the south.

If by bigboys you mean someone like the USA
