Where abouts in toronto is good to live? also places NOT to live? |
Im Australian and will be moving over there soon and i want to know what suburb/area would be best for someone like me. i am 25 years old with no kids, i enjoy the cafe/resteraunt lifestyle so i would like to be somewhere close to cafe's and resteraunts and bars but also near a train station or bus station and shops so i am able to get to the business district for work easily. i want to be quite close to everything as i do not like commuting far. can someone please explain the different areas and let me know areas that they think i would feel at home in. Thanks! also, if there are any areas you do not recomend then let me know that too. |

mehhhh High Park's nice and so are the beaches, but they're mostly double income family oriented places. So if you're into meeting people your age, they're probably not living in these areas because a) it's expensive to get property there and people in their twenties are poor and b) you have to have a car to get around and people in their twenties can't necessarily afford cars. Also if you move to the beaches, you better get a baby or a dog. One or the other because you want to belong to one of those two clubs!
Bloor West is not a bad suggestion - it has that friendly cafe culture vibe to it. But the area is probably more mixed than Queen West where I would say the highest concentration of young artists are living in the city.
There's the distillery district too, but it's just a bit out of the way and cut off from the rest of the city. It's pretty to visit once in a while but I'm sure it gets boring living there.
OH YEAH! Okay DO NOT LIVE In: Jamestown, Regent Park...the whole swath of land boxed in by Sherbourne, Bloor, Parliament St. and Dundas is generally considered a mixed area in a bad way, like you could be mixed in with crackheads. Do not live in Scarborough (aka Scarlem, Scarberia) because you could get shot; in Markham, Thornhill, or Richmond Hill, because it's so boring you'll shoot yourself, in Mississauga because if you ain't brown you ain't down, and Etobicoke because that place is the exact same as it was 20 years ago: a wasteland. |

The only area I wouldnt recommend is Jane and Finch just for crime. I think you would be very happy in Bloor west village if you can afford it. |

The Beaches, High Park, Leaside, Davisville Village, The Financial District and The Entertainmnet District are nice. Bloor West Village is good. Stay out of Scarborough and Jane/Finch areas. |

Actually the Distillery is a very nice place to live as it is close to everything. Riverdale is great and so is the Annex. King St. West and Queen West are full of young hipsters. I personally love the St. Lawrence Market area as it has everything and is within walking distance of anything you might ever want. High Park is great and Parkdale is making a comeback. Leaside or Rosedale if you have big bucks to spend. Danforth, The Beach, Wychwood, Spadina Rd north of Bloor, almost anything close to Yonge St north of Bloor and south of Sheppard. I also like St. Clair and Dufferin, College/Ossington and Cabbagetown.
Stay out of Scarborough, Mississauga, Brampton, Weston, Jane/Finch, Oakwood, Oakville, Malvern, St. Jamestown and Downsview. |

HIGH PARK.
It's a GREAAT neighoburhood.
It's right down by the beach, like jsut 3 mintues away, the houses are mostly big probably 5hundred to 1mill I'd say.
I'd recomend something like Indian Road, Sunneyside, or High Park Boulevard. There is a public shcool right smack int he middle called "Howard Park Public School" it's known as one of the ebst schools in Toronto, and used to ahve (Until a few years ago) one of the top choires in Ontario. |

The Annex, the Beach, High Park, Queen West, Bloor West Village, near Scarborough Town Centre (condos), Queen's Quay, Bathurst and Spadina, Bathurst/Eglinton, Yonge/Eglinton
Places to steer clear of: Regent Park, Bloor/Sherbourne (south), Jane/Finch, Jane/Wilson, Eglinton West (near Oakwood), Kennedy/Eglinton
Hope this helps!! |
