Where are the best places to visit in Ontario in August? |
Travelling from Scotland to Toronto area for 3 weeks in August 06 - Hoping to do the whole tourist thing as well as finding out more about the area and the country in general.
Hiring a car so getting about will not be an issue.
Any hint/tips would be much appreciated. |

As others have suggested you must see Niagara Falls. It is awesome. Ride the Maid of the Mist.
In Toronto see the CN tower, Kensington Market, the Lawrence Street Market, and China Town. If you are interested in theatre check out what is playing when you will be there.
Go to Burlington and drive up on the Niagara escarpment for the amazing view.
Go to Port Dalhousie, the site of the Henley Regatta and see the 19th centry merry-go-round in the park there.
Tour the St. CAtharines and Fort Erie areas. Visit vineyards and wineries - you'll see lots of them.
Go to Peterborough and see the lift locks on the canals - quite an impressive sight if you can see a huge lake boat being lifted through the locks. In Peterborough visit the canoe museum, much more impressive than the name suggests. Drive the "northern route" - Peterborough, Perth etc, and see the little roadside stands selling homemade jams, jellies, and baked goods.
Check out some of the Trent, Severn, Rideau canal systems. See Georgian Bay.
Visit Ottawa to see the Parliament Buildings. There is a guided tour several times a day.
That much will easily keep you busy for a few weeks and while you are doing that you'll come across lots of other things to see and do.
Oh, I almost forgot, when in the Fort Erie/Ridgway area ask for directions to Nigh's Chocolates - the most wonderful hand made chocolate you will find!

I am from buffalo ny and I would highly reccomend niagara falls ontario. it is about an hour and a half away from toronto but worth the trip believe me |

I highly recommend Ottawa, the capital of Canada. Also Toronto and Niagra Falls. If you go to Ottawa, it's worth it to go to Montreal which is in Quebec. |

1. CN Tower (glass floor in the tallest free standing structure in the world. . . definately very cool)

dont go to toronto zoo, it sucks. wonderland is fun. you can go to wild water kindom, CN tower, Casa Loma, and um..art gallery of ontario and ontario science center |
