Basically Canada gets her bananas from the same sources as everyone else.
Bananas grow in tropical areas all around the world where the weather is sunny and hot. Bananas for North America are imported from Central and South America. Bananas entering the United States come from Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Mexico and Nicaragua. Almost every banana that is exported from the major exporting countries finds its way into the hands of someone in the northern hemisphere. Over 90 percent of these bananas are sold in Canada, The United States, and the European Union, with even more increasing numbers being sold in Asian markets. The World largest importers are the United States and the European Union with both importing around 29 percent of the worlds exports of bananas. Chiquita sells bananas in about 70 countries making it the biggest banana company in the world.
Chiquita sources, distributes and markets bananas sold under the Chiquita and other brand names. Banana sales amounted to approximately 43% of Chiquita's consolidated net sales during the year ended December 31, 2006. In 2006, approximately 70% of banana sales were in Europe and other international markets, and the remainder was in North America. Chiquita also markets bananas in the Middle East and in the Far East, primarily through a joint venture that sources its bananas from the Philippines.
Organic bananas: "The main markets are the European Community (EC) and the United States, while Japan and Canada also have substantial organic banana imports," said FAO.
"More than 100 countries produce certified organic commodities, including a significant number of developing countries. The main country producing organic bananas is the Dominican Republic, followed by Mexico, Colombia, Honduras, Costa Rica, the Philippines and a few other countries. http://www.fao.org/WAICENT/OIS/PRESS_NE/PRESSENG/1999/pren9928.htm

Same place as the the rest of the west, central america, and the main source is from Ecuador.
Britain is a bit different because it wants to support the Caribbean island producers and so imports less from the US controlled growers.
And a thumbs down for everyone who says banana "trees". You should know that bananas are plants, and the fruit grows on a thick leafy stem. They are not trees. |

I grow them in my backyard. It's quite difficult to provide all of Canada with their bananas, seeing as my yard isn't very big, and banana trees only get fruit every seven years. |

Same place as us. Although India leads the world in banana production, representing approximately 23% of the worldwide crop, most is for domestic consumption. The four leading banana exporting countries are Ecuador, Costa Rica, Philippines, and Colombia, which accounted for about two-thirds of the world's exports, each exporting more than 1 million tons. Ecuador alone provides more than 30% of global banana exports, according to FAO statistics. |

From the banana plantations in southern Ontario. The bad news is that the rubber tree plantations are starting to take over areas where the bananas grow best. And the coffee-growers use too much water. We will soon have to start draining the Great Lakes. |
