Congratulations, There are tons of places. You can go to the NY finger lakes, or lake george area. You could go drive to the poconos, in the Pennsylvania Mountains. Cheap and romantic. I love Pa dutch country, it is a beautiful place to honeymoon. The people out there are so family oriented and friendly, you will never want to leave. |

Suggestions within close (a few hours) driving range:
(1) The Niagara Escarpment on Bruce Peninsula
(2) The vineyards area of the Niagara Peninsula (staying economically in the Grimsby - St. Catharines area, easy drive to the Falls or to Niagara on the Lake and other lovely towns)
(3) The similarly charming villages and vineyards area of Michigan's Traverse Peninsula.

I'd go to Banff for a couple days and stay at the Fairmont! Or go to West Edmonton Mall and stay a week or so in the Fantasy Land Hotel!
Airfare would probably cost you the $1000 but maybe you feel like driving??
I just moved back to Nova Scotia from Alberta, and these are two places I wanted to go! Maybe take the cheaper route and come to NS and stay in a cute little B & B somewhere. This time of year is absolutely beautiful, and if you wait until July, the Tall Ships are coming.

Congratulations.
I don't think you can get very far on less than $1,000.
Many couples these days are postponing their honeymoons. Weddings are so friggin expensive anyway that doing both is hard.
I would book a suite with a jacuzzi in the nicest hotel in a 50 mile radius. Look for a romantic boutique hotel online. Stay for two nights.
Tell her that it isn't the honeymoon. It's just a chance to get away together and be alone and reflect on your new lives together. (I know that is what a honeymoon is, but wing it.)
Tell her for the REAL honeymoon you are going to take her to New Orleans, Margarita Island (Venezuelan Caribbean), or Rome, depending what kind of traveler she is. But that it will take you a year to plan it out. Set a month, and then stick to it. |
