Where is best to live in toronto?

Neighbourhoods to avoid:

- Regent Park (a friend got shot in the neck by some dude in like 2000)
- From Steeles down to Wilson on Jane (worst is Jane and Finch)
- Some areas in Scarborough (i.e. Malvern)
- Some areas in downtown Toronto (as mentioned, Regent Park as one of them)

I recommend High Park as the best place to live, as well as north of Bloor around Yonge Street (anywhere up to Eglinton or Sheppard). Bayview area is good, too.

I always liked the High Park area of Toronto having that big honking park on your door step is great. As well as the neighbourhood has been around for a very long time and is well established there are OK schools in the area both public and high. At the north end of the park the subway is there to shoot you down town in minutes and at the south and east sides streetcars are near by. Housing from single family houses all the way up to high rise apartments and everything in between. There are lots of small shops and I always felt that it was a good place to live.

Your mileage may differ, may not be as advertised

There are a lot of beautiful areas to live in Toronto... personally, I live close to lakeshore on the Etobicoke/Toronto border and love the area. Still decently priced homes and condos but it wont last for long cuz the area is booming.

Bloor West is another amazing area... wish I could afford the houses though :(

To the people who answered with a smart-*** comment like "400 km north" or whatever... get real... life isn't better where you are. Now chop off that mullet!!!

The expensive places like Rosedale are "good" areas but it's really a matter of preference, - I have always wanted an apartment overlooking the Lake, for example!

400 kms out of town
