Use an ATM card and withdraw cash once you get to the US. They have the best exchange rate. Banks in the US will rip you off. The other way to do it is to use your Visa or MC for your purchases. They also will have up to the minute exchange rates which are the best available.

Whenever I travel I found the best place to exchange your money is at the Duty Free Shop.
If traveling by car enter first to the Duty Free Shop and exchange your money.
They even have these places in airports before you get on your plane.
Banks will exchange also, but you also lose out by paying bank fee charges for their services.
