Where is the best place to live in Toronto?

Where would be the best place to move in Toronto, Canada? My man & I would like to move there eventually. We're both intellectual. We can be professional- but we're big kids at heart. We would love to live in an artsy/ hippie area. I more shy and prefer to stay away from crowds (although he loves night life and being around people). I would like a place with a good bit of sunshine. Any suggestions? He's a med tech. & I have a finance degree and prefer working one on one (retail, non-commission, administrative assistant...)

Queen & King St are both awesome. Etobicoke, Scarborough and North York suck, unless you are interested in living in the suburbs. All the fun stuff happens downtown. Areas like St. Clair, Davisville and Eglinton are mid-town, so you get the best of both worlds. Lakeshore is really nice too.

I would personally suggest Queen Street West for you. It's artsy, downtown, but not TOO busy.

Good luck with your move! :)

Lakeshore and Mississauga road, very expensive area.

Annex or West Queen West (yes, this is how it's called) are both artsy and great, but expensive.
Some areas around those two might be significantly cheaper, though still good places to live, e.g. Liberty Village (close to West Queen West) or Little Portugal (close to the Annex)

Don't Listen to Davem,Alberta scum, he is just jealous he doesnt live in our great city. I would suggest king west, the annex, queen west, yonge and eglington.

Queen and Spedina (sp?) are my favourite streets downtown
cute little shops, fairly artsy :)

top places i would recommend are

Etobicoke (west end, very nice but a long commute if you work/play downtown)
The Beaches (quiet, by the lake, still close to downtown)
North York (calm, still close enough to everything, especially if you're close to the subway line)

Nowhere really. Toronto is Canada's biggest but dumpiest city.
