Where to get 'Official Copy' of Birth Certificate?
Hi All, I am traveling (by car) to Canada soon and DO NOT have a Passport, so now I need 2 forms of I.D. While obviously I have a driver's license I now need a raised seal birth certificate. Problem is I only have a copy. Can I go to the Town Hall of the city where I was born an obtain one there? Is that as good as the original to the guys at Border Patrol? Thanks! Additional Details The New Laws state you DO NOT need a Passport by Land to Canada.
When I was applying for my passport a few years ago, I got an official copy from my city/town hall that I was residing at the time. That is how it worked for me. I would call your local city hall and inquire about you situation. They would probably be of more help to you than most users online.

Go to the courthouse or contact the courthouse in the city in which you were born. You should be able to get a copy there.

In Alberta, you can request your birth certificate at the registries office, or by calling 310-0000.

The town hall will not help you. You need to check with the county records department of the county you were born in. If you are not near that county courthouse, try

VITALCHECK was VERY useful as I needed a copy of MY birth certificate and with this service I had it in a matter of days (I live in Arizona and I was born in Ohio). Didn't cost much and I got it fast.

Note, you'll need 'validating' information. I think they asked me what my mother's maiden name was as it appeared on my birth certificate when I was born.

rules have changed. You now need a passport or a special ID issued by the USA for travel to Canada. Drivers license and birth certificate will not do.
But for a Birth Certificate: google "birth certificate fast" and there are many companies that can get you yours fast (for a fee).
