vancouver, bc is great. there's the ocean, the mountains, great shopping, great bars and pubs, great people. it's a bit expensive to live in but most of the major cities in canada (ie vancouver, calgary, toronto) are pretty expensive. good luck in your move. |

Go to the east coast if you want to see rich culture, Halifax Nova Scotia is beautiful. If you want to experience prairie living go to Winnipeg, there are excellent restaurants and museums there. If you want to see the Rocky Mountains, head to Banff National Park Alberta and experience the hot springs, pubs and scenic beauty.
Canada is HUGE. Good luck, we'd love to have you! |

In Quebec, they speak French so you might want to pick up a phrase book. |

That's going to depend on what your interests are. If you're after nightlife, etc, then you'll want the big cities like Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, etc. If you're after seeing some of the spectacular natural scenery the country has to offer, there's the Maritime provinces, the Rocky Mountains, the west coast....
How do you plan on getting around the country? That could have an impact on the places you go to see. Canadian passenger rail service is very limited, but bus service is generally fairly good.
If you're after a truly unique experience, I'd recommend a visit to the Yukon Territory. The scenery is spectacular, the people are wonderful, and if you're there during the summer you could experience the Midnight Sun.
You might want to check out the Lonely Planet Canada guidebook. I've used their books for many of my travels in the past and have found them to be great reference books.
Hope you enjoy your trip to Canada. |

Yikes... that's like me the Canadian asking Where to go in Europe!
What do you like? Every part of Canada is so different. You'd love Halifax because it will remind you of home... but ...
Quebec is lovely too... French surrounded by English...
I'd say get out to the prairies... Manitoba Saskatchwan and Alberta, because it's so different from what you're used to. Lots of stuff to do if you can afford the travel. And if you get that far... Vancouver ,Victoria and the west coast islands are spectacular.
There are youth hostels everywhere... it's the travel that could kill you. The distances are huge. Take a good long look at the maps.
And when you get to Ottawa, give me a buzz (-; my girls and I will show you a good time! |
